About this Cook
I am the father of almost 6 year old twins with a creative side that does not get used often enough. Unfortunately I did not realize I had this creative side until I was almost 22 years old and then have spent the next 14 years trying to find the right outlet for it. My favorite creative outlet is woodworking but recently I discovered I can use my DIY mindset in the kitchen and come up with some great ideas. Woodworking is a solitary pursuit and does not involve my family, and since I have limited time with them as it is I find it difficult to lock myself in my shop for hours while my kids are home. I have also recently discovered that my wife and I love to cook together on the weekends, and my kids are really learning an apreciation for food and creativity by helping us in the kitchen. Cooking is really bringing us all together and my daughter is already trying to enroll in Food Network Challenge.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite thing to cook is anything that does not seem like you should be able to make it yourself or along the way we have been convinced we should buy ready made. I like to make things like homemade soft pretzels and my own ginger ale. I also like to home brew and come up with my own grilling spice rubs etc(that are very expensive when you buy them pre packaged) such as home made Taco Seasoning etc. My favorite thing to do is to grill, I will grill anything that stops moving long enough, including pizza right on the grill grate. You want to taste wood fired pizza, try cooking right over the flame.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I don't have any long standing cooking traditions but we have been having "Cook All Day Sundays" since the weather in New England turned cold and we have been having a blast.
My cooking triumphs
I think one of my favorite things is a perfrectly grilled piece of steak, or fish on a cedar plank. My kids told me I make the best grilled cheese ever! Hey, it's a start.
My cooking tragedies
No major tragedies that I remember. A couple of mishaps but no major catastrophes. The first time I put pizza on the grill I flamed a hole right through the middle of the crust, but you could tell if I perfected the technique it would be awesome. With each attempt it got better and better until the snow started flying...can't wait to start again next year. I have been making notes of ideas all winter.

Corn Dogs
These are super easy and taste awesome. I had no problems getting the batter to stick. Just make sure the dogs are dry. Slowly put them in oil to allow the batter to set. I recommned using the deepest vessel possible to fry them in and make sure the oil is 350 degrees. Great recipe!

Braised Balsamic Chicken
This is amazing! The chicken is moist is very flavorful! I cooked for about 10 minutes and chicken was not fully cooked and sauce was nicely reduced so I put a lid on to hold in liquid and it was great! Serve with pesto mashed potatoes, and roasted cauliflower. YUM!

Prime Rib Soup
This recipes is great and is a great`way to use up left over standing rib roast. I followed as written and added some extra pieces of meat. It came out a bit salty. It may have been the brand on broth I use so I would advise waiting to season with salt until half way through final simmer, then add if necessary. Overall this was fantastic and I am psyched I found something good to do with left over roast. I finally feel like I used everything.
