Family Favorite Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2014
I have several recipes for sloppy Joes but this is one of the easiest and most flavorful recipes, with the fewest ingredients I have found. Some people comment it is too sweet, but not for my family we tend to like sweet. There is one ingredient I do like to add to various hamburger related recipes that adds vegetables and stretches the recipe, and that is the Bellaire brand Southwest Vegetable mix. For those of you not familiar it is a combination of chopped green peppers, onions, black beans, and corn. It is located in the frozen vegetable section of the grocery store. Costco has small pretzel buns that go perfect with sloppy Joes.

Potato Bacon Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2014
This does look like a good recipe but personally I would not go through all the work and not add the clam. With that said, if someone didn't like the clams then this would be a good recipe, although I have not made this particular recipe it is very simular to one I have made several times. PS: To "Ron the Cook", yes, you add the bacon at the end with the drippings, keeps the bacon from melting into the chowder.

Hearty Spanish Rice Bake

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2013
This is a tasty recipe...my family all came back for seconds commenting on how good it was. It looks like a lot of ingredients but I just sliced and diced everything, measured all of the dry ingredients into a small bowl, and pulled the rest of the ingredients out of the pantry before I started browning the meat. Everything went fast after that. I like spicy and my family does too, but not as spicy as me, therefore I left out the sliced jalapenos and used Hot Rotel Tomatoes instead. I used a cup of cheese in the mix but probably closer to a 1-1/2 cups on top; served it with sour cream (a must) and tortilla chips. The next day I used the left overs for burritos, perfect and didn't need additional cheese. Will make again, thanks for sharing.

Very good and very easy. I made it just like the recipe, even using a spicy version of Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce.

Roast in a Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2013
This is a keeper; the only ingredient I changed was to use Golden Mushroom Soup instead of Cream of Mushroom. The Golden Mushroom creates a much richer sauce with chunks of mushrooms. I trimmed the roast of fat and cut it up into serving size chunks (Not too small). I was thoroughly impressed with the flavor of the gravy and served it with garlic mashed potatoes and steamed veg’s. Everyone loved it. Thanks for sharing great recipe.

German Red Cabbage

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2011
Great recipe . . . I have fresh red cabbage from the garden and wanted a recipe like this to make and serve as a side dish at cook-outs, this would go great as a side dish at any cook-out and it is much healthier than potatoe salad. Thanks for sharing, The Peev . . .

Beer Cheese Pretzel Dip

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2011
Excellant Cheese Spread easy to modify, i.e. chopped green chilis, rolled in chopped nuts, crushed peppers, you get the idea, or all the above. Lots of opportunities with this one. Thanks for sharing. The Peev . . .

Steamed Squash Medley with Sun-Dried Tomatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2011
Made this recipe last night exactly as written except I used smoked Sun Dried Tomatoes, it is simple and delicious. I didnt know they had smoked Sun Dried Tom until I went to purchase them. It was a nice addition especially for a side to Garlic Salmon.

Garlic Salmon

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2011
I made this recipe last night and it was great! Instead of fresh garlic I used minced out of a jar. I use and keep fresh garlic as a standard staple but was in a hurry. Otherwise made it exactly like the recipe, the dill makes these recipes tasty use plenty. I did use parchment paper instead of spraying with oil, as suggested by another reviewer, which ensures the fish does not stick to the tinfoil at all. Simple and good will make again.

Teriyaki Chicken Bake

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2010
Made this for supper last night just as written, except I grilled the chicken breast on a preheated gas grill for 5 minutes per side avoiding frying the chicken breast and adding fat to the recipe. Then I placed the breast in a baking dish and cooked as written. Everyone loved the chicken, it comes out moist and tender. Next time I may add some roasted garlic or even Jalapeno to some of the breast to add a little spice.

Easy Alfredo Sauce I

Would not recommend, tried twice just not what I was looking for. Not to mention it is not cheaper than buying already prepared sauce which is perfect everytime.

Homemade Barbecue Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2010
A basic bbq sauce should include: 32oz of ketchup, 1 cup brown surgar, 1/3c of worchestershire sauce, and 1/4c vinegar. This recipe would work if you increase brown surgar and added the worchestershire sauce and vinegar. Hot pepper sauce or cayenne pepper optional.

Italian Chicken Bow Tie Pasta

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2010
Thank you for the recipe? most of my pasta salads are made up from whatever I have on hand, I don’t even remember half of them. Usually I season then add olive oil, a touch of sugar, and vinegar I like to keep it simple. But for some reason I have not used Italian salad dressing. Not to mention I usually have a bottle in the fridge because I like to use it as a marinade on wild meat.

This is an excellant recipe! It is every bit as good as the previous reviewers said. I would not change a thing. I found a recipe for basil pesto on this site and the next time I think I will try making my own. Store brands are expensive and I thing I will be making this recipe alot. Thanks, The Peev

Spinach Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2010
This is a great recipe and as others have said it has a catchy name "Spinach Brownies". I try not to change alot when I make a recipe but I did follow the advice of another reviewer and saute the onions in 6 TBLS of butter instead of a full stick and I used a 20 oz bag of Spinach, and crusched peppers. But this recipe is very good my whole family liked it. Again thank you for the recipe I will be making again. The Peev

Saucy Beef and Vegetable Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2010
This is a good recipe . . . my kids are in their early twenties, they and some of their friends loved this recipe. I had them help make it; the neighbor boy across the street was so impressed he asked for the recipe, and then made it with his dad the next day. He said the topping didn’t puff up as much as mine, I told him to add extra flour next time. I added extra flour to mine (1/4c); until the mixture was a little thicker than a standard pancake mix would look like. It would be very easy to play around with the hamburger mixture adding things like black beans, but the only thing I did different was add shredded carrots in place of zucchini. Additionally, did you know that you can substitute white vinegar in place of cream of tartar? It is made from tartaric acid and half neutralized with potassium hydroxide. This process transforms it into a salt. Grapes are the only significant natural source of tartaric acid, and cream of tartar is obtained from sediment produced in the process of making wine. White vinegar or lemon juice, in the ratio of 3 times the amount of cream of tartar called for, will provide the right amount of acid for most recipes.
