About this Cook
I do not consider myself an "expert cook" - I was taught and learned by throwing a little bit of this and a little bit of that together using what was available - I am a cookbook collector - I like to find a recipe for a dish I like and actually try to follow it - I also love the history written behind recipes - That history makes a new dish worth trying - I am a Mom and Grand Mom with a hungry husband - My husband is usually my barometer on how good something is - I am thankful he has a very developed pallet
My favorite family cooking traditions
Being raised on a Southwestern ranch/farm where we butcherd our cattle once a year, I would say beef is a family tradition - Every Sunday after church we would go to my Grandparents house and have a wonderful meal - Holidays are important - They are where you shine with your dishes and eat with the family - I always look forward to them - Now I live in one of the largest counties of poultry production so chicken has been included in my family's traditions
My cooking triumphs
Cooking dishes other than beef - That was all I was taught growing up - So getting to shop at the store and purchase chicken, pork etc... was a new experience when I went out on my own and started my own family
My cooking tragedies
Over the years, to many to list - LOL

Meatball Soup
Good basic base - I used 1 8oz tomato sauce and 1 10 oz tomato puree - The thickened up the broth with 2 cups of macaroni instead of one - I also added a couple of radishes and a few more cloves of garlic and a 3rd bullion - Its a about how you like it to taste - Now what I like about this soup is once my husband eats all the meat balls out of it, I can fry up some hamburger meat or ground pork and add to it- Then there is a different meal - I also like to add croutons on top with the parm cheese - There is just 2 of us and it goes far

Midwest Loose Meats
I really am giving this 4 1/2 stars only because of the changes I made - I diced up an onion and added to the meat when I cooked the meat - Used venison - I added a small can of mild green chile to my liquid, used and I also added some accent - Meat came out wonderful! - To my buns I put a slice of American cheese on one half and ketchup on the other - I was really worried my husband would not eat it because of the chile and mustard - But he loved it and came back for a 2nd one

Country Fried Steaks with Sweet Onion Gravy
I am giving this five stars because of the review my husband gave it - I personally would give it four stars only because such a sweet gravy is not for me - Don't doubt the large amount of onions you slice, they will cook down and turn out ok
