The recipe at my website for Friday is a southwestern style corn and olive salad. The original recipe asked for honey in the dressing. I have a terrible time getting honey incorported in a dressing with vinegar so I substitute white sugar. This recipe has a lot of eye appeal in the… MORE

My husband and I are empty nesters. My everyday cooking style has changed since our son has left home. We now tend to have very light after work suppers. In the summer my husband really enjoys a pasta salad served over salad greens. The recipe on my website for Thursday is a broccoli, bean… MORE

The recipe on my website today is adapted from a cook book I got in Canada. It is for a celery almond salad. The presentation I suggest for it really looks nice on a buffet spread. OR, sometimes I place it in a serving dish with 2 wells and put a radish salad in the other side.… MORE

Just got the word that the first box of vegetables from my organic farm share will be ready next week. I can hardly wait. I write a weekly recipe email newletter for all of the farm shareholders who want to receive one. I try to furnish recipes for the vegetables we are receiving for that… MORE

This weekend's recipe on my website www.cjsrecipe.com is for potatoes cooked on the grill. I adapted it from the Nancy Drew Cookbook, written in 1973. The recipes are typical of that decade and make liberal use of stick margarine. They have references to the mystery books in the recipe titles… MORE

The strawberries this season have been wonderful. I usually eat them plain or with plain yougurt. They have been at such a great price I've been making many dishes with them. Friday's recipe of the day on my website is for a berry sauce that goes well with grilled chicken (turkey) or pork.… MORE

I found this recipe in a holiday appetizer cookbook (as in winter holidays) I've freshened up the taste by using fresh herbs that I grow in containers on my balcony. It is great with crackers but even better stuffed into celery sticks. It makes a lot but keeps well in the refrigerator. I just… MORE

The recipe for Wednesday on my website is for  simple breaded baked chicken breasts. I served them tonight with roasted asparagus spears and baked potatoes. Everything cooked in the oven at once. It was chilly and rainy today so I decided on an oven meal. My husband thanked me more than twice… MORE

When my husband and I downsized from a family home to a town house I had to give away a few hundred cook books. Some of them were 60 to 100 years old. One that I kept is titled: DAME CURTSEY'S BOOK OF SALADS, SANDWICHES AND BEVERAGES. It was published in 1915. The recipe for June 8th on my… MORE

You know life has come full circle when your off spring cooks for you. My son makes me Sunday dinner for my birthday rather than buy me a present. I really  like this. Today he made me (his title) Mexican Shrimp and Scallop Stir Fry. A very spicy dish with onion, bell and chili peppers with… MORE

About Me
I love to develop new recipes. I have had 15 recipes published by Reiman publications, publishers of TASTE OF HOME magazine. I like to try at least one new recipe a week. My other interests that aren't listed above are running and horse racing. By profession I am a registered medical technologist currently working in microbiology at a local medical center.
My favorite things to cook
Soups. Main dishes for interesting evening meals. Simple baking like cookie jar cookies and quick breads.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I basically make Thanksgiving dinner like my mom did.
My cooking triumphs
Winning a runner up prize for my lasagne recipe when I worked for the Nestle corporation. (I was a part time R&D assistant for the Willy Wonka Candy Factory)
My cooking tragedies
Trying to make sweet and sour shrimp with deep fried shrimp. Coating came off the shrimp when I put the sauce on. My familiy refused to eat it. We were short of money then and it hurt to waste the food and then go get MacDonald's for dinner.
