Easy Butter Fingers Candy

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2012
These are excellent and taste exactly like the candy bar. I did not use shortening, I just microwaved the chips at 30 second intervals, stirring in between, 'til they were ready. Also, I stuck the bars in the freezer for several minutes before spreading on the chocolate. I didn't find this recipe until long after Halloween candy was gone, but luckily, Amazon stocks candy corn year round. This will be on my Christmas tray for many years to come.

Asian Beef with Snow Peas

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2012
This is delicious! I used sesame oil because we love the taste of it, otherwise, I followed the recipe exactly. I'll definitely be making this again.

Anise Biscotti

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2012
This biscotti is very good. I used 1 T. of anise seeds and left out the extract. I also added 1.5 tsp. cinnamon. Everyone in my family adores these. Be aware that they do spread out quite a bit while baking.

Yummy Eggnog Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2012
The only change I make is that I omit the rum and use vanilla in its place. My family loves when I make this pie as our Christmas dinner dessert.

Triple Berry Crisp

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2012
I made this many times over the summer. Sometimes I followed the recipe exactly, other times I used whatever fruit I had on hand. It always turned out wonderfully. Thanks for the recipe, Polly!

Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2012
This is not my kind of recipe- I don't like wing sauce at all. However, I made it for my boys and they adored it, which was the goal. Thanks for sharing this. I'll be making it again for sure.

Irish Lamb Stew

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2012
This recipe is outrageously delicious! I used red wine instead of white and I omitted the sugar. Also, because it was so soupy, I made a faux roux with some flour and a little of the broth (no butter) to thicken things up, and that worked very well. I should also mention that I slow cooked the lamb first and then crisped it up in a dry skillet (that helped me to cut back a little on the crazy amount of fat in the recipe). I used about one pound of bacon when I doubled the recipe. I will definitely make this one again and again. Thanks so much, Danny!

Artichoke Spread

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2012
I made this exactly as written except that I didn't puree the ingredients. I chopped them instead. I found this to be pretty bland, but my sister (who admittedly prefers bland food) really enjoyed this. I might make this again with the addition of a quarter cup of jalapenos to see how that works out. Thanks for the recipe, Sarah.

Whole Wheat Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2012
I skipped the butter and replaced it with 1/4 cup of vegetable oil. I also added a couple of teaspoons of vanilla. My boys loved these. Next time, I will reduce the milk a little- maybe 4.5 cups instead of five for a double batch. Thanks for sharing the recipe, Jen!

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2012
This is the best chocolate chip cookie recipe ever. I'm tossing out every other recipe for CCCs that I own. The only changes I made were to omit the water and instead of using vanilla, I used the scrapings of one vanilla bean. These are outrageously good and they are beautiful as well. Thanks for sharing this recipe, Dora!

Baked Oatmeal II

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2012
This is wonderful! I lower the brown sugar to 3/4 cup because my boys like to add a spoonful of syrup to the bowl when they eat it. This is great for making and then storing in the fridge so that you have breakfast ready to go for a few days. Just heat it up and add a little milk.

This is a great recipe- I didn't change a thing. I'm so glad to find one that doesn't include a cream of _____ soup in the ingredient list. Thanks for sharing this, Suz!

Grilled Salmon I

My husband loved this, but I found it far too sweet. If I make this again I'll add lots of ginger and maybe some sriracha to balance the sweetness.

PHILLY Bavarian Apple Torte

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2011
The pastry itself is excellent- be sure to use real butter, not margarine. It takes on a browned butter flavor that is delicious. I will definitely be making this again- my family went nuts over it!

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2011
While the taste of this soup is excellent, I wasn't quite so crazy about the texture. It was a little thin for a cream soup, I thought. Next time I won't boil the potatoes with the rest, I'll bake them and scoop them out. That will help thicken it nicely.

I scaled this recipe down to two loaves and added 2 tablespoons of vital wheat gluten to help with the rise. Baked for 28 minutes. This bread is delicious! My family loved it. Thanks for sharing, Nita.

Rye Beer Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2011
This is a nice rye bread. I used molasses instead of sugar and added a heaping tablespoon of vital wheat gluten because I wanted a nice rise on it. It rose beautifully and made excellent reuben sandwiches. I do wish it was a little more robust in flavor, but for people that don't love dark breads, the fact that it isn't might be a bonus.
