Natchitoches Meat Pies

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2008
I, too, grew up in North Louisiana eating Natchitoches Meat Pies. I miss them so much! This recipe has potential as it captures the taste of the meat pies. I did, however, feel that the "crust" was lacking. First, there is no way I could get 15 meat pies from one store-bought pie crust recipe. The ones I bought (and I tried several) were much too crumbly to reshape into dough and reroll. Also, very little meat would fit in there without breaking the dough as it was too crumbly as a pie crust. Basically, I didn't get very far with this recipe, but I think with a different type of dough, it would work better. Maybe a homemade pie crust dough? I may try that next time, though I'm a little hesitant after all the work this time that produced no edible results to speak of. That being said, the recipe has the potential to be a 5 star for me if I can tweak the dough issue. Thanks for trying! It gives me hope that it can be done!

Tina's Fruit Dip

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2008
I made this fruit dip because I had all the ingredients on hand. I agree with PP that it would not work with melon...and maybe not with pineapple. I used it with strawberries. My first impression was "hmmmm creamy caramel." I thought it would be best on apples. After eating about 10 strawberries before my guests had arrived, I decided that it was really good on strawberries as well....maybe grapes too. Anyway, I give it 4 stars because it is not quite as versatile as other fruit dips, but for a nice change of pace and a little something different, it is quite delicious!

Jezebel Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2008
I tried this before I knew what was in it. Had I ever seen the recipe, I would have thought it would be horrible! So if you're doubting whether or not this will be good, take it from a picky is SOOOO addictive!!! It's just the right combination of sweet, sour and spicy.

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2008
Love this recipe. I do use cinnamon chips (or other fruit flavored chips)from the grocery. I don't necessarily like the texture of these chips. Before I found the "sweet" chips, I took regular tortilla chips and sprayed the cooking spray and added the cinnamon sugar. They tasted sweet without the "chewy" chip texture.

Mock Peanut Brittle

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2007
Not a 5 star recipe to me. I do not think that it tastes at all like peanut brittle. (I had made peanut brittle along with this, so I had it nearby to compare.) To me, it tastes like cornflakes and peanut butter. Even my kids were not bowled over by this one. Sorry!

My first attempt at guacamole.... Couldn't be easier, and I've never tasted better! (and I'm from Texas, so that's saying a lot!)

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2007
Holy moley! These are to die for! This makes my bread machine worth more than it was to me before. I'm going to burn up the motor making these babies! Adjustments: I did do the lower temperature for longer as suggested in a previous review and no doughy center. I also wish I had 1 1/2 the icing recipe. Now if someone could just include directions for refrigerating or freezing the dough, I'd be set. (But if I have to continue getting up at 4:30 AM to start the machine, so be it!)

Peaches 'n' Cream Gelatin Dessert

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2007
I liked this, but it was a little too much cream and crust and not enough peach flavor. Next time I will add more peaches and perhaps more peach gelatin. It was good, just needs some adjustments.

Six Threes Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2007
Okay...I'll admit, I totally screwed this recipe up by accidentally adding 3 cups of orange juice!!! OOPS!!! Even doing that, it was DELICIOUS! (I did have to finally freeze it as it would not freeze in the Cuisinart ice cream maker.) Any recipe that you can screw up that bad and STILL turn out well deserves more than 5 stars!
