Forgotten Party Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2012
I made these last night using the method for the quick timing. I preheated the oven to 400 and then turned down to 200 when I put the cookies in. Baked 1 hour and then left them in the turned off oven for 1 more hour. I piped this goodness onto the Pam sprayed cookie sheet, some with a maraschino cherry and others plain. I prefer the plain ones. For a NON-FAT recipe, I'll be making this again. It comes together so quickly and reminds me of cotton candy. I did use good vanilla but I might try another flavoring some day :)

Chef John's Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2012
This hit the spot!! Absolutely perfect consistency with just the right amount of tang. I added a bit more than a dash of Worcestershire sauce but otherwise followed the recipe. No cayenne for us but the simmering for at least an hour is what makes this just so yummy. Thanks Chef John for another fantastic recipe. I've been making another sloppy joe recipe from here but if I'm not in a big hurry this will be my go-to recipe.

Mie Goreng - Indonesian Fried Noodles

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2012
This was absolutely delicious. I cut the recipe in 1/2 and it really was plenty for 3 servings. I added quite a bit more cole slaw mix (cabbage) but otherwise followed the recipe to a tea, using only 1/2 tablespoon of oil for the whole meal. I didn't have sweet soy sauce so I used citrus infused soy sauce and it made it really good. I will definitely be making this again when I get a "hankerin'" for chinese food. Thank you Felicia for a wonderful recipe.

Linda's Fake and Bake Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2012
I also put the chicken on a rack in a baking sheet. The underside still was soggy but the flavor was ok for baked chicken. It will never compete with real fried chicken but one has to do what one has to do :) Thanks Linda for posting your recipe.

Smoked Oyster Spread

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2012
I, too, use 8 oz of cream cheese and it has plenty of smoked oyster taste. I love the Worcestershire sauce flavor so I always add a bit more. I've made this recipe for years and don't know why I didn't review it sooner. It's something that can be put together at the last minute and served. It's not the prettiest dip, but it works on flavor!

Creamy Linguine with Clam Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2012
I really enjoyed this quick, tasty meal. I used the Classico Alfredo sauce and it was perfect. I only used a dash of the red pepper flakes and added some parsley for some color. I did have to make about 12-14 ounces of pasta to use up all the sauce, 8 oz was not enough in my opinion. Otherwise, I followed the recipe exactly, using 3 cans of Snows Chopped Clams, using all the juice from the cans to reduce with the wine. Really good recipe, dare I say restaurant quality? Thanks grainie for the recipe.

Herbed Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2012
My turkey breast was about 5.75 pounds so I doubled the spice mixture and put it on high in my crockpot for about 4 hours. It made tons of very flavorful juice. I used my quick read thermometer and it read 165. It was done PERFECTLY and so moist even my picky non-turkey eating hubs loved it! I turned the crockpot off and left it in there until the rest of the meal was done. I strained the juices into a pot and mixed in the packet of gravy that came with my turkey breast from Target. It made the most wonderful gravy and the flavor was outstanding.

Chef John's Perfect Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2012
Well, I've been making mashed potatoes for about 35 years and I have to say this is absolutely the best method for fluffy, flavorful mashed potatoes with the perfect consistency. I only have non-stick cookware so I did have to use one of the "banned" mashers but I have to say, they were still perfect! This is how I will make my mashed potatoes from now on.

Grands!® Monkey Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2012
We enjoyed this but the sauce did not "caramelize" in the bundt pan. I scooped it out after done and put into the middle of the biscuits. Next time I'd bake this about 3-5 minutes longer as the inside seemed a bit doughy. I did add walnuts which made the recipe!

Delicious! I used a bag that was 26 oz of small meatballs. The sauce was just the right amount for 26 oz. I'd make this again for sure. I did serve with some steamed rice and yellow squash casserole.

Original Chex® Party Mix

Of course, this is the best chex mix recipe :) I did cut it in 1/2 and did the oven method, 250 degrees for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Excellent for football snacking :)

Broccoli Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2012
Excellent recipe! I did cut it down to 4 servings and used homemade chicken broth. I also used 1 crown of fresh broccoli, chopped up. I also used my immersion blender when the broccoli was tender and then added the cheese, etc. I'd make this again for sure.
