My favorite things to cook
Vegetables are definitely my best and favorite of foods. I am also told I am great with Roasts, Baked turkey, Rice dishes, Seafoods, Pastas, breakfast foods, and cake decorating.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My special fried rice, Baklava, "all out" salads, fresh raspberry pie, and candy bar cookies are always requested at family functions. Another tradition is that the birthday person gets exactly what they want on their birthday of course!
My cooking triumphs
After losing my mom to cancer, our family missed her famous Baklava. No one ever thougt to obtain the recipe, which she did not write down. I diligently worked to replicate it and knew I was successful when I introduced it at a recent Thanksgiving get together. I spoiled a few dinners when a few just couldn't leave it alone before the big meal, as it was "just like Mom used to make it".
My cooking tragedies
I realized the importance of baking soda the first time I made a cake at 12 years old. It was a rock. My stepdad and brother ate the whole thing. I think they wanted to make me feel better! I also set my Grandma's kitchen on fire when I was around 7... I liked my toast on the well side and I think I pushed the toaster too far when it sparked!

Slow Cooker, Easy Baked Potato Soup
This was delicious! Family says this is a keeper. I had medium to large size red potatoes and decided to do my best with this subjective quantity; I think this is why the reviews vary so much on taste. Here's what I did: I used about 8 med to large reds, chopped in 1/4" to 1/2" cubes. These filled a 4 quart oval crock pot to just about 1" from the top. After adding remaining ingredients, there was still about 3/4" from the top. I changed ingredients to: 6 tbsp flour, 1 c crumbled real bacon, 2 cloves minced garlic, 1 oz. packet ranch dressing mix, 4 tsp parsley, 2 tsp seasoned salt, 1 tsp black pepper, 5 c water and 2 c half and half. Kept rest of ingredients same as original 4 serving recipe. This combination was not too salty for any of us. Only thing I added was more black pepper on top to serve, then topped with shredded cheddar, a dollop of sour cream (made huge difference) and green onion. This was perfect for 5 persons and was served with rolls. No leftovers! Prep time was a exactly 30 minutes; I cooked on low for about 10 hours (time away for work).

Elnora's Peach Cobbler
I loved how quick and easy this recipe was. Taste was great! Crust could have had more crisp texture for my preference, but family enjoyed it. I added cinnamon by sprinkling on top of peaches along with sugar. Will make again.

Taco Dip II
Made this for a family BBQ yesterday and everyone loved it. I had an old recipe I was trying to replicate and this is the closest I've found to it. Will definitely make again and again. I used left over carnitas instead of hamburger and it was a delicious change. Will use either in the future. I used a bit more cheese and sour cream than suggested; personal preference. I left out chopped tomato and jalapeƱo due to guest preferences, but will add in future for just our family. Really great recipe; thank you! Goes great with homemade pico!
