Sweet Potato and Salsa Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2015
The flavors of this soup balance so nicely. The sweetness of the potato against the lime and salsa were delicious. I did make three small changes. I had fresh salsa so instead of pureeing it, I left it whole to add texture to the soup. Also, since I love the chili lime flavor instead of black pepper I used chili flakes I dried from my bumper crop of peppers this year and instead of plain salt I added chili-lime flavored salt. Heavenly on a cold gray day!

Pasta with Salami and Peas

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2014
i used all the ingredients the recipe called for but cut WAY back on the oil and butter. I also crisped the salami. The DH and I liked the end result well enough.

Tahini Sauce by cooks4forty

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2014
I gave this 5* because it does make a very nice spread but I did not like it. My taste buds gave it a 1*, I did not Iike the overwhelming bitter taste that tahini seems to have. I saw no reason to fault the recipe since I had never tried tahini and I have since learned to make hummus with my leftover tahini that my friends say is the best they have ever had. The tahini in my hummus recipe doesn't seem to have that overpowering bitter flavor but definitely adds to it making it an awesome recipe now. Friends that did not like hummus at all loved mine so for that this recipe deserves 5* cause I learned something new!

Sausage Balls

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2014
For a simple quick dinner these are great with sausage gravy for a dipping sauce. My DH did saw this made on a cooking show. When I read the reviews there, many said the recipe was dry. If you mix this in a stand mixer long enough it comes together like creaming butter & sugar. A spicier sausage ups the flavor too!

Scampi-Style Scallops Over Linguine

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2014
I give the recipe 5 stars because the submitter said this was a starting point and I believe she is right. The scallops I had to work with weren't the highest quality but that isn't her fault. The dish lacked that punch of flavor I thought it would have. I felt if I hadn't followed the recipe to a T but had thrown in some more wine, garlic. That some more something my taste buds were waiting for, it would have been really good. It is a great starting point though.

Orange Vinaigrette Dressing

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2014
I really liked it. The DH said he couldn't really taste it but I served it over organic spinach which was pretty strong flavored. I did forget the orange zest and I did find the dressing to be a little too runny. I figured since I was trying something new on the guys it had better look closer to store bought so I got out my smallest saucepan and reduced the dressing. Differently will be using this recipe again!

Chocolate Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2014
I was torn between 2 and 3 stars for this recipe. At first bite it's not too bad. Chicken came out moist and tender but then a lingering after taste that can be described as bitter and burnt comes out. I think maybe because there is nothing to balance all the cocoa powder.

Dilled Bean Spread

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2014
I saw a question about this recipe on the Buzz since it had been nominated for Recipe Group. I had everything on hand and I really need a way to get whole oats into my diet so I tried it. I did make it for 1 serving so instead of using the food processor I used my immersion blender on the oatmeal, pickle juice and garbanzo beans and then hand chopped the onion, pickles & celery. Mixed together with the mayo & mustard. Loved it! I used Klaussen dill pickles and thought the flavor was great could even throw in some sweet pickles too. Definitely a keeper!

Bread Bowls

I made the recipe the first time as is except for making 1/2 a recipe since I'm the only that eats soup in my house. The first time the outside wasn't quite as crisp as I wanted so while the oven was cooling I left the rolls in. Really enjoyed these perfect little bowls!

Barley and Mushrooms with Beans

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2014
I did enjoy this recipe. Followed the recipe the first except my broth was frozen so I probably had more than the recipe called for which was perfect for me and I continue making it that way. I've made it several times and use beef broth and toss in some oregano & a splash of hot sauce. Makes an excellent lunch!

Body Butter

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2014
Thanks for sharing this manella! Thanks to Lela's blog, I tried it. Store bought lotions weren't doing a thing for my dry skin. I'm so glad I found this! I do confess I've been tweaking the recipe a bit since it was such a success. I thought I would try making some lip balm with the addition of shea butter and beeswax. Loved the balm so much I melted shea butter and a touch of beeswax with your other 2 ingredients, needless to say no more commercial products for me!!

Belgian Waffles

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2013
So the husband decided we needed a Belgian waffle maker, taking advantage of the pre-holiday sales he got one. I did some research and this recipe looked pretty user friendly. I make a roll recipe that uses egg whites folded in that is a big hit so I figured this was a good pick. Following recipe and waffle iron directions to the letter, I was ready to give this recipe a 1 star. The guys had returned from their black Friday holiday shopping and were starving. The waffles were coming out horribly. I grabbed my trusty cookbook and whipped up a plain waffle mix. After 2 failed attempts with that, I decided to get out my 25 yr+ old waffle iron and see what would happen with it. Got the guys fed using my trusty old iron and moved on to this recipe's remaining batter. Oh yum! Turned out just like I thought it should. Crispy and golden brown on the outside, light and tasty on the inside. I'll be keeping this recipe and returning the "new" iron!

Popcorn Shrimp

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2013
These were really good! I accidently tweaked the recipe by forgetting to add the milk to the egg mixture which didn't hurt a bit. I did have really big shrimp so I cut them into pieces made for the perfect bite. Definitely a keeper recipe here!!

I was looking for something different to make and I had all the ingredients. We all agreed it was good and the flavor was ok but the recipe just didn't WOW us.
