About this Cook
I'm a young senior citizen married to a great man who has a great heart and a big heart problem. I cook "from scratch" to eliminate cholesterol, fat and sodium from his diet and still make the food taste good. It's sometimes a challenge!
My favorite things to cook
Soups, Stews, Lasagna, Chinese food, Pasta dishes, cookies of any kind, American cuisine of all regions.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas cookies, Stollen, Stews, Soups, anything with cheese
My cooking triumphs
Creating a varied and good menu of low sodium food for my husband's diet. When I started this type of cooking, nothing had any taste without salt. Now I have learned the herbs and the tricks to make the food taste wonderful without much sodium at all.
My cooking tragedies

Chef John's Empty Mayo Jar Dressing
Valerie, - I agree with you and to the two snarky ones, what is this world coming to when there is no compassion! I can never remember what herbs make up "Herbes de Provence" and have to look it up every time!!

German Pork Chops and Sauerkraut
This was delicious!! I didn't use caraway seed as DH doesn't like them, but otherwise followed the recipe to the dot except for adding more brown sugar to the sauerkraut. I love sauerkraut with added brown sugar and it is the only way my hubby will eat it. The addition of the apple was great. I'll be doing that from now on!
