There are 6 of us that get together - we have been meeting and enjoying food and friendship for almost 30 years.   Rob is the grill master - he taught me how to grill.  For that I love him - well I would love him anyway - but heck he has really helped me step it up in the world of the "Grill… MORE

In elementary school I hated "word problems" "Why do they make us do this stuff?"  I would squeal....  "I don't care how fast the train is traveling or when Jenny will arrive at her destination."  Fast forward a few decades....  As I have said before - I am not a fan of ground beef.  But today… MORE

I would really like to know -  Who was the first - very brave person, to actually eat these thistles?  None the less, I am so thankful that someone had the guts to tackle these dudes.  I first met Artichokes when I was about 13 years old.  They were foreign to me but my step mother Dorothy … MORE

Yes, believe it or not I really do like to do this.   No Baking Papa thinks I am nuts - he might be right. This weekend I have been asked to cater a hawaiian themed party for a college graduate. What started off as about 20 - 25 people has grown to… MORE

I have been cooking for a long time and have had my fair share of failures in the kitchen. No Baking Papa is a pretty good sport when it comes to eating some of my creations. Rarely is the whole meal a bust for him - that is until last night.   In reality, he is a burger and fries… MORE

With the beginning of a new year comes the resolve to eat healthier, lose weight, get more exercise.  All noble resolutions.    There is one sure way to lose weight and that is to burn more calories than you consume.  Counting calories is great but for some it just… MORE

This is my favorite Fried Rice.  Love it!  I can make a whole meal of this.  Feel free to add what you like and leave out what you don't like.  I often cut way back on the curry if I am serving this as a side dish.  Thai Pineapple Fried Rice. 1 cup pineapple tidbits (fresh is better,… MORE

Are you making Prime Rib this holiday season?  How are you cooking yours? There have been a lot of questions on the buzz regarding Prime Rib and the best method to cook it.    Keep in mind that these are MY opinions - mine alone.  I thought I would share some of my experience - having… MORE

Have you seen this Jack in the Box commercial?     Known for their humorous - rather edgy commercials - I don't think this is funny at all and sends the wrong message.   I have included the link to the commercial below - watch it for yourself - Here is my brief re-cap.      Woman… MORE

Asian Food!   As I have stated in my profile I go through phases - after the big turkey for Thanksgiving and the Hunks O' Meat while entertaining it was time to move on to something different...something lighter - so I am back to Stir Fry and Hot and Sour  Soup.  (Thank you Tao,… MORE

About Me
Every morning my granddaughter calls and says, "Good morning Nana. Whatcha doing? Are you baking Nana?" Hence my name, Baking Nana. I love to bake bread and never get tired of it. Yeast is additive! My favorite things to cook
I go through phases, Asian for a while then Italian then on to something else. I love experimenting with new flavors and different spices. Some times my husband will ask if we will ever have "ordinary" food again. Once in a while I have to toss him a burger just to keep quite! Actually, he is a good sport and my favorite taste tester.
My favorite family cooking traditions
In our family if it is your birthday you get to choose the menu. We have had some really interesting meals. In March we have 5 birthdays so we do one big party - what a crazy menu that is! Christmas dinner is very traditional. Sausage rolls, Prime Rib, Yorkshire Pudding, gravy, Green beans with bacon, Mashed Potatoes (the really fattening kind) and trifle for dessert. If I were to dare to omit any of those items I would be lynched.
My cooking triumphs
Mastering really great bread is probably my biggest triumph. I am always so pleased when I create a perfect Asian dish.
My cooking tragedies
There have been a few but none so horrible that I can't laugh about them now.
