I LOVE to cook, ever since I was 4 years old and had to stand on my tip toes to see what Mama was doing on the stove top, I have absolutely been captivated by it. I like to say that cooking is my passion, it relaxes me and it entices me. A stressful day is easily undone by beating out my frustrations when kneading bread or by the scent of fresh brownies cooking in the oven. Knowing that I have a talent that just about everyone can enjoy makes me smile.
My favorite things to cook
Having to narrow it down to one thing is crazy! I love baking more than anything else. I love fresh pies and pastries and breads. I love the flavors that melt in your mouth or shock off your socks. And I love pairing it with the perfect cup of espresso and hearing "Now _that_ is good!" when I share my creations with others.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking with the help of little ones, no matter their age, no matter the fact that they slow you down. It brings the whole family together and kids tend to eat whatever they've cooked, even if it's good for them! :)
My cooking triumphs
Just about everything new that I've attempted has succeeded. Which is great news because I've just been informed by my doctors that I need to go vegetarian for dietary reasons. (To make a long story short, my kidneys can't handle the meat any longer) I am actually looking forward to the new challenges this brings me in both cooking and in life.
My cooking tragedies
When I lived in Texas almost nothing I baked came out right. I'm sure if I were to return to the dry town of Abilene again, I would meet the same fate. I have no idea what I did wrong and I really don't care to go back and figure it out. Might have been the bad marriage I was stuck in, might have been the crazy weather (hot one day, snowing the next). Whatever it was, my cooking reflected my life... and it sucked! Thankfully I am past all of that now and have MOVED ON! :) Time for new adventures in cooking and in life!

Fluffy French Toast
I was skeptical about the addition of flour to the mix, but it worked really well. These are indeed fluffier than my basic recipe for French Toast. We will be making these again. :)

Fluffy Pancakes
I have made many Saturday morning pancakes in my life so far, but these are the best. It's silly really, I used to use lemon juice to turn the milk to buttermilk, but I never let it sit very long. I followed the directions here exactly: vinegar instead of lemon juice, letting it sit for five minutes or longer, etc. My husband could not stop raving about how these were the best pancakes I'd ever made. He said "Whatever you did this time, do it every time from now on." I can't promise I will only use this recipe from now on, but this will be definitely be my main recipe from now on. :)

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles
This is the exact same recipe as Betty Crocker's. I've been making it for YEARS. The only thing I do differently is add a cup of Hershey's cinnamon chips to the mix. It adds that special little "yum" that I love so much. I also toss extra cinnamon and a teaspoon of ground white pepper in with the cookie dough if I'm feeling extra spicy :)
