About this Cook
My name is Ashley, and I live with my husband, Andy, and our five-year-old son, Breylen. Both of them always seem to be hungry and it's up to me to feed them! I have always loved cooking and baking, but now that I have a family, I love both even more. I also like to entertain. I cook a homemade meal nearly every night and enjoy trying new recipes. I love getting my son involved in the kitchen whenever possible, and he loves it, too. I hope he keeps it up!
My favorite things to cook
There's no way I could pick a favorite.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We always have traditions of making big meals on Christmas and Easter, so I enjoy making big dinners (or dishes to contribute to the big dinners) for family on those holidays.
My cooking tragedies
Honestly, I haven't had a real "tragedy". I guess my first time I tried to make spaghetti, when I was about fourteen or so. I didn't boil the noodles long enough and they turned out quite chewy, but we ate it anyway.

Grandma VanDoren's White Bread
SO EASY! This is a delicious, light bread that rises quickly. Each step says you should wait about an hour in the video, however, I found that each step really only took 30-35 minutes. I think what makes this bread so great is the sponge rising technique. I yielded three high loaves of bread with this recipe. This is quite an easy recipe, especially if you have a mixer. I sent off one fresh loaf of this bread to a relative today! This is a bread recipe I am keeping and will be sharing with others :-) Note: You can also use all-purpose flour and the bread will still taste totally fine.

Really Wicked Spinach Artichoke Dip
Delicious! I left out the red pepper flakes, only because I don't like them, but made everything else as written. This is creamy, rich, and it tastes amazing on little diced pieces of sourdough bread for serving. I had this out as an appetizer for Christmas and we ate half the pan!

Cracked Sugar Cookies I
Great recipe that produces yummy, nostalgic sugar cookies, and I love that you don't have to chill the dough before you bake. I made the recipe exactly as written and found it to be a little dry, so I just added about 2 tsp. of milk and it was perfect. This is a keeper and will be a go-to for Christmas baking.
