I learned most of what I know from my grandmother & trial-and-error learning. I have Celiacs so I am learning to cook gluten-free now. I cook what tastes good. We like a variety of flavors, not the same old, same old every week. I usually try 1 new recipe a week.
My favorite things to cook
Brussels sprouts fried in a little bacon grease, a good old fashioned pot roast with roasted vegetables, a roaster chicken cooked simply... so delicious and the family can help on a busy weeknight so we still get that time together. ;)
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love cooking all year round. My only real favorite cooking tradition would be cooking WITH my family, all of us in the kitchen spending quality time together.
My cooking triumphs
Converting regular recipes into gluten-free...best one yet is pumpkin pie with gluten-free gingerbread crust. The family RAVES about this recipe and it's always requested.
My cooking tragedies
Trying to make a gluten-free pie crust that resembles a traditional pie crust. It was an utter failure and I've pretty much given up on the hope of having that "light crust" mouth feel. Instead I don't use regular pie recipes or convert them to use a more porous crust.
