About this Cook
I was born in Arnhem, The Netherlands to parents who had lived in Indonesia most of their lives. When I was five, my family moved to Spain while waiting our turn to immigrate to the US which we did in 1969. As a result of my parent's Indonesian cooking, the Spanish culture I grew up in for ten years, I absolutely love foods with a bit of a bite!
My favorite things to cook
The love of spicy foods has rubbed of on my husband and children, so no matter what recipe I try, I tend to spice it up a little. Even my desserts tend to be "tarter", etc, than the original version. My latest change in eating has me focusing on a Paleo-type eating plan: no or limitted grains, and very few items such as white potatoes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite dish growing up was chicken, rice, curry. I choose it every year as my birthday dinner. It has brought me pleasure to have my children also request it for their birthday dinners. We are a family tha likes taste foods... Spicy, garlicky, savory, zesty, you name it. Nothing bland will do.

Creamy Broccoli Casserole
Great recipe. I did make some changes though. I sautéed the onions along with some garlic then added the broccoli until it just started to soften. I transferred the broccoli to an over proof dish and tossed some grated parmesan on top before adding the sauce. I then added a bit more parmesan before tossing it in the oven. This added changes gave much more flavor to the dish. Yummy!

Butternut Squash Soup with a Kick
I doubled the recipe but made some changes. In a double batch I used one Jalapeno, 1 tbsp crushed red peppers, 1 can evap. milk, one can coconut milk, 1 32oz box of organic chicken broth, and NO sugar! I pureed only 1/2 of the soup to allow for texture. Oh is it good!
