Better than Bakery Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2014
I've never made cookies that are so easy, the butter flavored shortening adds texture and flavor. GREAT RECIPE!

Perfect Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2012
This cake always comes out Moist and perfectly chocolate. I wanted to add chocolate chops but the tend to sink. May add them to the top right before putting them in the oven and see if that helps, or using smaller mini choc chips.

Chocolate-Chocolate Chunk Muffins (like Costco)

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2012
They came out on the dry side by their cooking time. I like mine on the fudgy, undercooked side. Also I substituted the unsweetened chocolate for 3/4 chocolate chips and melted all of them, then added more chocolate chips to the finished batter. Still wasn't chocolatety enough. Next time will increase the cocoa to 2/3 and reduce the chocolate chips to just using 3/4 cup like the recipe calls for and only putting half to melt in the beginning. Great start. They were VERY light and had great potential in texture, the flavor just needs some work.

Fresh Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2012
Really very good. I left out the onions and bacon cause I don't like uncooked onions and had no bacon on hand. My broccoli heads were on the smaller side, so i added 3/4 of the dressing to start with, which was to much. Next time I'll add more slowly. One variation a family member does is she buys shredded broccoli to make a sort of broccoli slaw. It's much easier and doesn't require all the cutting of broccoli. This recipe would be perfect for that and I'm going to try it next time. Possibly a little less sugar next time as well, it was very sweet.

Sweet and Sour Chicken I

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2012
This recipe has the best batter and chicken texture. I didn't have Self Rising Flour, so I used All purpose Flour and 3-1/2 tsp baking powder. After failing at several sauce recipes I realized it was because I was using regular vinegar as alot of other recipes use red wine vinegar. What a difference that made! I also added 2 cubes chicken boullion next time I'll try 3. 2 tsp ginger and I omitted the pepper. Very Very good, got rave reviews from the fam! Some of the other recipes added lemon juice and ketshup. I'll stick with this recipe though, why mess with perfection. It goes great with fried rice. Why go to the restaurant when you can make it at home better?!

Garlic Croutons

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2012
Wanted to use garlic powder instead. I tripled the recipe and add two teaspoons total. So good! Way better than store bought. Goes great with Buttermilk Garlic dressing just like that Steakhouse restaurant. So good!

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Top of the cheesecake burned and also it overflowed my pan. Next time I'm covering with foil and putting in an 11 or 12 inch pan. Good overall and very easy to make.

Soft Sugar Cookies IV

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2011
I've been looking for a good sugar cookie recipe that's soft like my sisters who uses a 16oz bag of powdered sugar. This one hit the spot! Before I rolled them out I chilled them for a few hours to make them easier to roll and shape. I didn't put them in a ball and smush them like they say. They held their form very easily and were very easy to work with on a heavily floured surface, they didn't fall apart when I put them on the pan. I rolled them out to half of a centimeter or a little less. They baked for 9 minutes, once you can see the tan on the edges, they're already overcooked. I used "Sugar Cookie Icing" by JBS Box. They came out like store bought sugar cookies, except better! Delectable!

Jif® Peanut Butter Blossoms

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
The recipe said to keep it in the oven for way to long, 8 or 9 minutes seemed to be just about right. I used a tablespoon to get the right amount of dough otherwise I could never quite get the right amount. Next time I might use a tablespoon and a half or 2 tablespoons. These cookies were brought to my nephews school and were a hit. I used crunchy peanut butter cause that's all we had I really liked it this way but next I'll try with creamy.

Yummy Honey Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2010
Instead of making kabobs we split the chicken in the 2 inch wide chicken breast strips, served on top of rice. SOO good! I only wish I made more sauce next time I'll make double and put half on the stove with a little corn starch to thicken. It's like a sweet teriyaki. Delectable!

Vegetable Lo Mein

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2010
The sauce wasn't as flavorful as I would have hoped. We didn't have hoisin sauce though and no access to any other oils besides vegetable, I think the key might be using peanut oil, so I'll search some out before I make this again.

I rolled them out to half of a centimeter or a little less. They baked for 9 minutes, once you can see the tan on the edges, they're already overcooked. I used "Soft Sugar Cookies IV" by Laura Stearns. They came out like store bought sugar cookies, except better! Delectable! The Icing has a slightly hard texture once it sits kind of like a thick glaze. I had to had quite a bit of water to it, like 2 tablespoons, cause it was sooo dry. It was perfect. The almond flavoring sets off the vanilla flavoring in the cookies brilliantly. This is my go to sugar cookie recipe from now on.
