About this Cook
I was never much of a cook (I could cook, I just didn't like to) until the past six months since my mom passed away. I cook not just for my husband but sometimes for my dad and my adult stepson. I'm enjoying getting good reviews on my meals.
My favorite things to cook
I don't know if they are my favorite things to cook, but my greatest successes have been with soups. I bought a mandolin slicer not that long ago, and with that, I've made a huge variety of soups.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom passed away in 2009, and she was the cook/organizer for holidays. Somehow, the task has passed to me: Christmas brunches, St Patrick's Day (with soda bread and all), etc. My husband's family is from Peru, so Peruvian cuisine is part of our lives, as well.
My cooking triumphs
Making Irish soda bread for the first time since my mom passed away and having it turn out so well. Suddenly, I'm a Cook, and I'm enjoying it.
My cooking tragedies
Fortunately, I've not had any memorable tragedies. It does make me sad that I couldn't share my cooking with my mom, though.

Spinach and Tortellini Salad
My husband absolutely loved this. I did use fresh spinach rather than frozen, but otherwise, I followed the recipe exactly.

Six Can Chicken Tortilla Soup
I used leftover cooked chicken, a box of chicken stock, and I didn't drain my tomatoes. This was a big hit with my husband, who immediately asked me to make it again soon. Also, I am on Weight Watchers, and this recipe is VERY point friendly.

Best Beef Dip Ever
A bit too salty, but other than that delicious. I will definitely make in.
