It's always way more exciting when you create your own recipe, rather than following one from a cookbook or website. I've made a few, I can probably count them on two hands, but every time that I do I feel such a sense of accomplishment! I guess that shows I have a real love for cookin MORE

I'll be honest, I wasn't too sure how well this was going to come out. The pears I had were still hard, the kind you have to put into a brown paper bag for a few days before you can bite into them. However, I actually think that fact made this all the better. You can clearly see the diced MORE

This is one of my all time favorite dinners. It's quick, takes less than 30 minutes to put together, from start to finish, and the flavor is amazing. The marriage of olive oil and butter is a match made in culinary Heaven, in my opinion, and contributes greatly to the success of this dish. MORE

Doesn't that sound marvelous? it just rolls off the tongue... vanilla zucchini. Mmm! These were really good, and I would definitely make them again, but I actually spit them out first time I tasted them! You know how sometimes things just have to sit to allow the flavors to mellow and ming MORE

Hey remember that cherry tree I mentioned in a previous post? Well, I told you I went picking and gathered 4.5 pounds of loveliness. :) I turned all of those into cherry pie filling and am so excited about the prospect of using them this fall and winter! It tastes delicious and it was a big MORE

About Me
My favorite things to cook
I love baking, especially cookies and cakes. :) I love cooking too, but I like to experiment, which can occasionally mean take out! ;)
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up in the convenience food era. My parents were divorced and I was a latch key kid. There weren't a whole lot of home cooked meals in my childhood, but lots of packaged and frozen goods. I try to make dinner every night for my family, though sometimes it's take out due to sports activities, etc. I'm envious of those that have their grandmother's recipes, I don't have anything like that.
My cooking triumphs
i've created a few recipes of my own, one I even won a contest for :) I love experimenting and finding new ways to combine flavors. I feel triumphant every time I bring something to my neighbors, they always give me rave reviews!
My cooking tragedies
I try to prepare whatever I can early in the day, so that the hectic afternoon is less... well, hectic! I tend to be pretty frugal, so I'm always pantry diving. I also menu plan every week, it saves me from A) running to the store in the middle of the week and B) getting take out.
