The 4th of July weekend is almost upon us! I'm trying to plan my menu for the 4th. We'll be at our camper that weekend, but luckily we have a refrigerator etc, so it's almost like cooking at home.. almost! I'll probably make several things ahead, like these to die for blackberry pie MORE

If you consumed them daily, Starbucks could be a very expensive habit to have. Last summer, I concocted my own mocha frappucino and my daughter makes them for herself and her friends all the time now.  Now that the weather has warmed up again, we've started making these yummy homemade f MORE

I have a neighbor that lives about 4 houses down. He has a sour cherry tree in his front yard. I was walking my dog one day last summer when I saw him working in his yard. I asked him if that was a cherry tree. Of course, I knew it was, but figured that would be a good way to strike up a… MORE

I adore Mexican food. The flavors, the aroma, everything about it is wonderful. When eating out at a Mexican restaurant, they would bring out this appetizer cup of noodle soup that was so simple, yet incredibly tasty.  I later found out it was called Sopa de Fideos. Fideos are a… MORE

I was a latchkey kid. My parents were divorced. We ate a lot of convenience food because Mom had to work 2 jobs to pay the bills. She wasn't home when we got home from school, she was at job # 1, a switchboard operator for a hospital. She'd come home in the evening, we'd eat mac and cheese… MORE

This is a quick bread, not a yeast bread, and it's filled with marvelous sunflower seeds. It uses whole wheat flour and wheat germ and is topped off with more sunflowers and kosher salt.  It's very good warm with some butter, but I thought it was best when allowed to cool completely.… MORE

Do you make your own ice cream? I LOVE making ice cream, just wish I had a bigger freezer! When I made this white chocolate ice cream, I fell in love. I adore white chocolate, though chocolate purists will argue that it's not really chocolate. Technicality! Who cares, it tastes awesome :) MORE

About Me
My favorite things to cook
I love baking, especially cookies and cakes. :) I love cooking too, but I like to experiment, which can occasionally mean take out! ;)
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up in the convenience food era. My parents were divorced and I was a latch key kid. There weren't a whole lot of home cooked meals in my childhood, but lots of packaged and frozen goods. I try to make dinner every night for my family, though sometimes it's take out due to sports activities, etc. I'm envious of those that have their grandmother's recipes, I don't have anything like that.
My cooking triumphs
i've created a few recipes of my own, one I even won a contest for :) I love experimenting and finding new ways to combine flavors. I feel triumphant every time I bring something to my neighbors, they always give me rave reviews!
My cooking tragedies
I try to prepare whatever I can early in the day, so that the hectic afternoon is less... well, hectic! I tend to be pretty frugal, so I'm always pantry diving. I also menu plan every week, it saves me from A) running to the store in the middle of the week and B) getting take out.
