About this Cook
Update 3/09: I'm trying to learn to cook again - properly. I view daily cooking as drudgery. I just don't like it. The only time I really enjoy cooking is when I'm cooking for a holiday or party and I can get creative with the whole entertaining process. For the longest time I've romanticized the notion of being a good cook and learning to bake bread and such, but when push comes to shove I'd rather order out.
My favorite things to cook
I have a few comfort pasta sauces and pilafs I make. I'll post the recipes. Also, Art's mom's German souffle pancake is fun. French toast. Lamb and fish. There are a couple of Russian appetizers I make that are very good: eggplant "caviar" and a garlicky beet spread.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Roast lamb with lemon, olive oil and rosemary for spring holidays Roasted rosemary potatoes sitting in the pan with the lamb Isabelle's German Pancake on birthdays or holiday mornings
My cooking triumphs
I have made some very good fancy meals, but they are infrequent events.
My cooking tragedies
The tragedy is that I don't really like cooking much. haha.

Chocolate Mint Candies Cookies
These are super-chocolately and have a brownie-like texture. The kids loved them. We couldn't find thin mints so I used Ghiradelli mint-filled squared which melted and worked just fine. They are a bit too rich and chocolately for me.

Cream of Pumpkin Soup
Made this for Thanksgiving last year and it was an enormous hit. Everyone loved it including kids. I used fresh pumpkin though. Just slice a pumpkin in half, put it sliced side down on a lightly greased baking sheet and bake for 45 min - an hour. Let sit for 20 minutes to cool. It's easily scooped out of the skin and pureed in a food processor.

Easy Hamantaschen
I also found the dough bland and hard to work with, but the latter may be my relative lack of experience with baking in general. Putting more than a teaspoon of jam is definitely a mistake and as another reviewer noted, jam is preferable to jelly as jelly will run. I would even go so far as to say that you want confiture or very thick jam for this. As evidenced by the photos, it isn't easy to make these cookies look good either. I know it's possible though, so I'm guessing experience counts. I will try a different recipe next time though as the dough really is bland. Had fun making and eating them with the kids nonetheless.
