Bread Pudding II

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2011
I've never really had bread pudding before, but my mom claims to be an expert, and she dubbed this "EXCELLENT!" I just heated up a cup of half and half and a cup of skim milk in the microwave as my "scalded" milk. I didn't use nuts because I was too lazy/exhausted from work/kids/etc. to chop them right now, but sprinkled a little snack pack of raisins on top. For the bread, I used a starting to go moldy bag of Amoroso rolls- I cut the moldy bits off, of course! Great recipe. Thanks!

Love this recipe. I don't make the noodles, just use half a pack of egg noodles instead.

Butternut Squash Pizzas with Rosemary

I really wanted to like this more, and it turned out gorgeous looking, but the flavor just didn't have the depth I hoped for. It was interesting to try though!

Spaghetti Squash Saute

I really thought this had great flavor, but the 8 year old still prefers marinara. This is my fave though. :)

This was a good, nice change from regular ol' marinara- and shoot- dirt cheap! :)

Apple Squares

These were very yummy, but (I can't believe I'M saying this) a wee bit too sweet for my liking. Next time I make them, I think I'll cut back on the sugar a teeny bit.

Faye's Pulled Barbecue Pork

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2011
This recipe is exactly what I was looking for. After making pulled pork with only bbq sauce and being terribly disappointed, I was thrilled to find this one. Thanks Faye! :)

Chocolate Cupcakes

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2011
I really liked these! I was looking for a chocolate cake mix that used cocoa powder as that was all I had on hand, and these turned out very nicely. Yeah, it wasn't possible to fully cream the butter and sugar, but it really wasn't an issue. I liked that these did require so little butter, as I topped these with saturated fat laden buttercream frosting anyway (mmmm!). I would definitely make again.

Vanilla Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2011
I made as recipe states (no chocolate chips), though I only had to bake for 25 minutes in my small oven. I hate to say this, as I LOVE sweet, but these were too sweet, even for me! Texture was nice, but regrettably, I won't be making these again.

Tuna Pasta Salad with Dill

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
We really like this. This recipe has replaced my old tuna pasta salad. I've made this a few times for dinner even when the pantry and fridge were pretty empty! The addition of the dill and pickle juice really make a difference in the flavor.

Depression Cake I

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
I just had to try this as an experiment. For what it is, it's amazing. I took the suggestion of cooking the shortening/raisin/spice/sugar mixture the night before and just letting it sit with a lid on overnight. Worked great (and smelled lovely!). My mom LOVED this cake, unfortunately it was not to my liking (so my mom ended up eating the majority of it). The texture was really nice and moist. If I was growing up during the depression and eating ketchup and mayo sandwiches like my grandmother and great-aunt did, I probably would have thought this was such an amazing treat, however, my spoiled taste buds ruined this for me. Thank you for this recipe though, it was really cool to make! Very ingenious for containing no milk, eggs, or butter!

Pixley On a Stick

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
Just made this for Christmas Eve company and it was a hit. I used 4 chicken breasts, which was too much for the amount of bacon, but I just dredged them in the sugar/ranch mix and cooked them alongside the others. Thanks!

Butter Snow Flakes

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2010
I received a cookie press last year and using another highly rated recipe from this site for spritz cookies, I was highly disappointed and thought all spritz cookies must taste like that. Thankfully, not so. I'm not much one for butter and sugar cookies, but WOW! I could eat far too many of these. I dyed the dough green using the tree on my cookie press, sprinkling them with sugar dyed red. Not only are they adorable, but really tasty! I regret not doubling the recipe as these were so good, but I'll be making these again this week, for sure. Also, these only took 5-6 minutes to bake for me.

Detroit Hot Honey Wings

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2010
Oh my AMAZING!!! These are the first wings I've ever made (definitely not the first I've ever consumed though...lol). I took the advice of another reviewer, baking them in the oven for 30 minutes on 400 degrees. I seasoned with cayenne and pepper, then poured about half of the sauce on top to cook them in. Once done, I tossed them in the remaining sauce and I, my 15 month old, and 8 year old devoured them! I probably would not use quite as much honey next time, and the heat is very flexible. These wings came out soooo tender. Thanks so much for this recipe!

This was a hit at Thanksgiving! Very moist, not too rummy, really pretty. I melted some chocolate to glaze it, though it really looked quite pretty as it was. Everyone was quite impressed. Thanks for sharing!

White Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2010
Wowza! I used walnuts and white chocolate chips instead of macadamia nuts and white chocolate chunks, only because of what I had on hand already. I am impatient and only stuck them in the freezer for maybe 10 minutes. I don't really care that these are on the flatter side, they look fabulous and taste yummy. I'm making another batch of these for Christmas cookie trays!
