Empanadas

Very yummy! Used raspberry pie filling, which was too runny. Next time, I will for sure use a thick jam instead.

Easy Biscuit Mixture

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2011
I love this recipe. It has replaced Bisquick in my house. I use all the Bisquick recipes from their website with this and it's so much tastier home-made! Store in an air-tight container in the fridge.

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2011
I love this moist, delicious bread. Best with nuts added -- I use pecans. One time, I didn't have enough zucchini, so I replaced what I didn't have with unsweetened applesauce and liked this bread even better! Yummy!

White Chocolate Snack Mix

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2007
I have given this snack mix as Christmas gifts two years in a row now. I always get people raving about it. I absolutely love it too and have difficulty stopping myself from eating all of it when I'm making it! I usually add about 1/2 package more of the white chocolate chips just to cut down on the oil and cover everything better. I also spread my whole kitchen table with waxed paper (I tape it to the table with tape) and just dump this stuff out on it to cool. Then, just throw away the paper when you're done! Makes clean-up easier, I think! This is good stuff -- you can't go wrong with it!

Army SOS Creamed Ground Beef

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2005
Pretty bland. Edible, but bland. I was looking for a recipe for this because my mom used to make it a lot when I was a kid. Her recipe was much better. I know she used a lot of onion and cooked it with the beef. I'm an "army brat" so my family is very familiar with S.O.S. My grandma told me she used to make it with smoked salmon (added at the very end of cooking) or bulk sausage, for more flavor. We always served this over toast.

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2005
Wonderful cookies! The amazing thing is, I am not a raisin lover, and I can't stop eating these things! I did make a few slight changes based on some of the reviews I read. Since I'm avoiding shortening and margarine (trans fats), I used all butter in this recipe. The cookies spread beautifully (I form each spoonful of dough into a ball before baking) and there's no substitute for the wonderful taste of real butter. I used ground Allspice instead on cloves (not a big fan of them), which really complimented the flavor of the cookies. And since my oven runs hot, I reduced the baking temp to 325 degrees and baked about 11 minutes, which yielded perfect, golden cookies that were chewy with a slight crispness on the edge. Awesome cookies! Thanks for the recipe!

Sarah's Banana Bread Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2005
The original recipe makes good muffins, but some changes were needed to make this a "five star" recipe. I agree with other reviewers about adding vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. I also agree about lowering the baking temperature to 325 degrees. I do not agree about reducing the amount of sugar though. I tried that the first time I made these muffins (reducing sugar to 1/2 cup) and there was a funny aftertaste that I didn't care for. With the full cup of sugar added, these taste wonderful and they are not too sweet at all for my taste. Another addition I really like is 1/2 cup rolled oats instead of nuts. The oats add texture and make this muffin more fitting for breakfast, and a little heartier. With the changes I've implemented, these muffins come out perfect, moist and golden every time I make them! A new family favorite in my house! My three year-old can't keep his hands off them!

Gooey Brownies with Shortbread Crust

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2005
I consider myself a "dessert lover" and especially a chocolate lover. I also love shortbread. While I think this recipe is a good idea, I don't like the way it tastes. The shortbread crust doesn't have much flavor to it (I would add ground almonds or pecans to it for more flavor and a nutty crunch), and the "brownie" layer really doesn't taste like brownies at all. I think it's the sweetened condensed milk that makes them taste kind of strange. Rather than using that recipe, I would just layer my favorite prepared brownie mix (with chocolate bar pieces and nuts mixed in) over the top of the modified crust and bake it. I think it's a good idea, but this recipe just didn't "hit the spot" for me.

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2005
This was very good, but the flavor didn't blow me away. I would almost suggest adding more of the seasonings to both the meat and gravy. Also, this is not "steak" at all. It's more like skillet meatloaf patties. This was quick and easy to make, and my husband absolutely loved it, so that earns it four stars from me.

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies I

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2005
I make a recipe almost exactly like this one, but I like mine better because the cookies spread out a little more and have more flavor. Instead of shortening, I use 1/2 cup (1 stick) margarine and I reduce the salt to 1/2 teaspoon. I also add extra chocolate chips (semi-sweet) because I like lots of chocolate. Awesome cookies!

Baked Potato Soup I

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2005
This is an excellent soup, but WAY TOO THICK! After refrigerating the leftovers, I had some the next day and the soup literally looked like a bowl of mashed potatoes with bacon and green onion mixed in. I had to add some milk to it to thin it down, but it was still too thick for my taste. The flavor was wonderful -- I didn't add any extra seasonings. Next time, however, I will do as another reviewer suggested and cut the butter and flour by half. Should be the perfect consistency then. Add additional grated cheese to top each soup bowl as the cheese seems to get lost in the soup mixture with all that other creamy stuff.

Pizza Crust for Bread Machine

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2005
This is an excellent pizza dough recipe and I love how fast and easy it is! The dough is a little sticky coming out of the machine, so make sure you flour your hands while pressing it into the bottom of a greased pizza pan. I make my pizza using the "Easy Pizza Sauce II" recipe from this site, along with my favorite toppings. Then I bake it at 425 degrees for 15 minutes and it comes out perfect every time! The dough is soft and tender and comes out nice and puffy and golden. Enjoy!

Easy Pizza Sauce II

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2005
I really liked this sauce, but made a couple small changes too. Like many others, I added about 1/4 teaspoon sugar to the sauce. I also changed the minced garlic to garlic powder, with good results. Use this with the "Pizza Crust for Bread Machine" recipe on this site for a quick and easy home-made pizza dinner!

Banana Nut Bread Baked in a Jar

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2004
This is an awesome recipe. I love how original it is! I didn't use cloves in my banana bread because I'm not too fond of them, and the cinnamon still adds nice flavor alone. You could try nutmeg too. I didn't add nuts because I was giving these out as Christmas gifts to neighbors. Everyone seems very impressed, and I like the fact that I don't have to stress out about baking during the week of Christmas! I can bake everything ahead of time and it will still taste just as fresh as the day I baked it! Thanks for the recipe! I'm trying pumpkin next time!

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2004
This is a definite keeper. I used this seasoning to make Taco Soup for a woman who just got out of the hospital, so I didn't want to make it too spicy. I left the red pepper flakes out and did as other reviewers suggested and cut the salt in half. Didn't have sea salt -- just used regular and it turned out great! Very authentic flavor and very quick and easy to make. Thank you for a great recipe!

Baked Honey Mustard Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2004
This chicken was missing something. I'm not sure what. I've seen other honey mustard chicken recipes on this site that call for stuff like mayo and Dijon mustard instead of regular mustard. I'm considering trying them instead. The chicken smelled really good while baking but the flavor of the basil was a bit overpowering and left something to be desired.
