Wonderful cookies! The amazing thing is, I am not a raisin lover, and I can't stop eating these things! I did make a few slight changes based on some of the reviews I read. Since I'm avoiding shortening and margarine (trans fats), I used all butter in this recipe. The cookies spread beautifully (I form each spoonful of dough into a ball before baking) and there's no substitute for the wonderful taste of real butter. I used ground Allspice instead on cloves (not a big fan of them), which really complimented the flavor of the cookies. And since my oven runs hot, I reduced the baking temp to 325 degrees and baked about 11 minutes, which yielded perfect, golden cookies that were chewy with a slight crispness on the edge.
