Into art, painting, photography, writing. I look at cooking as another creative outlet.
My favorite things to cook
Wedding soup, creating salads, cinnamon bread, chicken/dumplings, rosemary pork cutlets, garlic spinach, brussel sprouts, green beans.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My father's mother raised a large southern family, and her cooking reflects that. One of my favorite recipes that I follow from her is chicken and *strip* dumplings. Living in the north, people usually make dumplings out of spoonfuls of dough, so that they're like biscuits. The first time I tried them, I asked, "What are THESE?"
My cooking triumphs
The first time I had a holiday dinner at my house for +15 people - turkey; unstuffed stuffing with sausage, apples and walnuts; southern green beans; sour cream mashed potatoes; pepper and cheese corn bread; pumpkin roll.
Everything was my original recipe, and I did family dinners for the next ten years. Whew!
My cooking tragedies
Too much garlic.
People think that there is no such thing as 'too much garlic', but, when you're gasping from dry mouth/throat, literally, can't drink enough water, honestly, and it takes at least 30-45 minutes for the effects to dissipate, you've used too much garlic.
