Creamy Hot Cocoa
Excellent in small batches--settles when made in large batches. We prepared a quadruple batch for our daughter's January birthday party. It was very rich and chocolaty! Those who love sweet drinks will be pleased. Those who prefer things a bit less sugary will likely prefer a version with reduced sugar. By the time the drink cools from hot to lukewarm, though, a lot of the sugar and chocolate have settled to the bottom of the cup, making those last few sips SO sweet and rich that it's almost hard to swallow. If you can drink it hot or don't mind stirring as you sip, this is a delicious recipe. For those without a sweet tooth or those looking for something to make in large batches and serve over the course of a party (during which the stuff is settling in the pot), I'd suggest trying another recipe or reducing the sugar.

Hot Cocoa Mix in a Jar
I mixed up a quadruple batch to jar and give as favors at my daughter's birthday party, and when it was finished, I had to taste-test it before giving it to my guests. It did not disappoint! It is much more creamy and chocolaty than your average store-bought powdered cocoa mix. I suspect the pudding mix is the key. My only criticism is that it creates a lot of "dust" when mixing, transferring into jars, or scooping into a mug--but this is true of all such mixes, in my experience. This one has by far the best flavor of those I've tried. I did follow the suggestion made by other reviewers to use chocolate-flavored powdered creamer, and this probably boosted the flavor. With that one simple modification, it's a 5-star recipe for a powdered mix! I jarred it with a few peppermint marshmallows, which is my favorite way to drink it!
