About this Cook
I am a latina that was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. Growing up my life was all about Mexican food or quick fixes since there was always something that my family was involved in. My mom had us girls in the kitchen at a very young age and my passion for cooking grew from there. I love trying new foods and making recipes my own. These days I've been trying to eat healthy yet still delicious food.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking and making desserts from scratch. I tend to change recipes as I go along so that it never tastes the same twice (very rarely do I measure). I also enjoy cooking Mexican food that reminds me of home
My favorite family cooking traditions
Before I moved away from home, my family would always gather to cook massive amounts of tamales. It is a tradition that I love participating in when I make it home around the holidays.
My cooking triumphs
At work we were having a big family lunch and I was asked to make a dessert since everyone has a sweet tooth and no one can seem to get enough of anything I bake. I decided to make a tres leches cake without even having a set recipe. I combined 3 recipes in one and stayed up until midnight making it. Everyone loved it and couldn't belive that I had never made it before. Sadly, I cannot find my custom recipe after moving so I will have to work at it agian.
My cooking tragedies
I have still yet to make my own turkey because it terrifies me but I have failed at making a whole chicken. It was pink on the inside and after a few extra hours added to the cook time I gave up, shredded it and finished it up on the stove.

Spring Strawberry Salad with Chicken
I’ve made this recipe a few times and although I didn't follow this recipe to the "T" I did really enjoy the mix of flavors and texture. Instead of using the balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing I used Brianna’s Home Style Blush Wine Vinaigrette Dressing (it’s what I had at the time). It was more of a thin dressing that added a mild flavor. I also used a spring mix instead of just plain spinach and blue cheese as opposed to the suggested goat cheese. I couldn’t find any candied pecans so I just lightly toasted them with a sprinkle of brown sugar and it was amazing. One thing that I do suggest is to let the chicken chill so that the greens don’t get soggy. I also added some craisins to the salad for a little more taste and texture. Overall, this salad was surprisingly delicious and I would make it over and over again.
