There's a perception that living in a small town in a small county means good food is hard to come by. But - really - good food doesn't have to be different or expensive. It just has to be delicious. And with that in mind, there's a palate for every flavor.

I cook by the seat of my pants most of the time, and have only recently gotten better about writing down a recipe after I've prepared it. I have a preference for fresh meats and produce, but I'm also a working mother, so tend to have a stock of frozen vegetables that I can pull from to make dinner in a pinch or if I'm just plain too lazy to slice and dice. I'd like to think of myself as an idealist with a healthy dose of reality.

I agree - as a matter of fact, I've discovered the more *complex* recipes (those calling for pages of ingredients and/or specialty herbs and spices) rarely end up impressing ... high quality produce coupled with fresh homegrown meat (like you, I'm a fanatic for our own beef, pork, and chicken) = one tasty meal. (long pause) On the flip side (grin) I have developed a passion for browsing specialty grocery stores on those rare occasions when I actually escape to the city. The first time I discovered anchovy paste I 'bout peed my pants I was so excited (grin)
