Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2010
I'm going to have to agree, this is a 5-star apple pie recipe. I didn't change a thing, nor would I. I brought it to a dinner party and I thought the guests were going to lick their plates. This is my new go-to apple pie recipe.

Cheese Biscuits I

Great quick cheese biscuit recipe. I put the garlic powder and parsley in the mix and it tastes great.

Apple Raisin Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2009
I thought this was good, especially with a little butter on it fresh out of the oven. My substitutions were: 1 cup of unsweetened applesauce instead of grated apple, used 1 full cup of brown sugar, and substituted 1/2 cup of white flour with wheat flour. And it only needed to be cooked for 45 minutes in a metal loaf pan in my gas oven.

Pecan-Oatmeal Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2007
These are hands down my new favorite pancakes. I didn't have any pecans or walnuts, so I made them without, but they are still great. I also added a couple tablespoons of oat bran since I had some on hand. These are excellent.

Rich Chocolate Brownies

Reviewed: May 4, 2007
I used the brownie mix but not the frosting. It was a respectable brownie recipe. Next time I might try adding chocolate chips.

Buttermilk Pancakes II

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2007
I usually opt for recipes that have wheat flour, bran, etc., but I was in the mood for a good ol' white flour recipe and this one was very good. I halved the recipe, used one egg and added a little vanilla as recommended by other reviewers. I also used canola oil instead of melted butter. Still tasted great. Be warned that the batter is very thick and requires a little spreading in the pan. I'll make this again.

Banana Muffins with a Crunch

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2007
Wow, these were delicious! I used a bit less sugar and they were still plenty sweet. I also substituted half a cup of flour with whole wheat flour and the taste was superb. Next time I'll try to use more wheat flour and substitute some of the butter with applesauce to reduce fat without sacrifcing taste. These were great!

Absolutely Best Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2007
Yep, I rate these a 5 since they are very simple, fast and tasty brownies. I only used 3/4 cup of sugar and it was plenty sweet for me. Double the recipe if you want two pans of brownies.

Outrageous Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2007
These were awesome. I flipped the amount of brown vs. white sugar since I like more brown. I used old fashioned oats and added some of our favorite granola cereal for a little sweet crunchiness - oh man! I also did not use peanut butter since it wasn't my preference. These cookies were delicious. One of those batters that you could eat half of before it hits the cookie sheet. Yum. Big hit at my house.

Grilled Salmon II

Reviewed: May 15, 2006
Terrific! I made it with freshly grated ginger and dialed back the brown sugar since we don't like to taste sugar in a recipe. I also tripled the recipe to have plenty of extra sauce (can never have too much). It was a serious crowd pleaser and so easy to make. I will be making it again.

Best Ever Corn Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2005
Good, but a little too sweet for my taste. I dialed back the sugar and vanilla extract and that helped for my second batch. I also thought it would be a bit more like corn bread, but this recipe isn't as course as true corn bread. Doesn't make it bad, just different.

Cheddar Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2005
I gave this 5 stars all around for being a very respectable, super fast, and easy recipe. It's a great salty-cheesey biscuit that everyone will enjoy. Aside from dialing back the amount of cheese, I wouldn't change a thing.

Baked Salmon Fillets Dijon

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2005
So simple, not overpowering, just great. I used a brown German mustard since that's what I had in the fridge and it worked out terrificly - even without the pecans. The flavor was excellent and I'll make it again.

French Pastry Pie Crust

This was just what I was looking for. I love to bake and this was my first "from scratch" pie shell. I used it for a fresh blueberry pie and this was excellent. Wouldn't change a thing.

Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2004
Just a terrific recipe. My boyfriend and his eleven year old daughter went blueberry picking and I used this recipe to make a pie that we ate for dessert one night and we polished it off the next morning! I used just over half a cup of sugar rather than the 3/4 cup that this recipe suggested. Our fresh summer berries didn't need the extra sugar. And for pastry shells I used the French Pastry Pie Crust recipe found on this site. It was perfect.

German Chocolate Cake III

I made this for my brother-in-law's birthday and I was a hero. The best cake I've ever made - no doubt about it. I wouldn't change a thing about it. Try it for yourself.

Chicken Pot Pie V

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2004
Delicious! I made two pans and they didn't last long. I used frozen pie shells and thought the pie recipe was great. The only thing I would change is for it to be creamier.

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2003
I like that this recipe is not too sweet. I agree with others though, probably needs vanilla, cinnamon, a bit of nutmeg and nuts are great if you like them. And DO NOT cook this for an hour. My guess is that 45 minutes is enough. Mine was dry. Overall a great base recipe to start with.

Grandmother's Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2003
I just finished making a batch and they are fantastic. The golden brown color and crispness on the outside are wonderful. I'd recommend "under cooking" them a bit if you want a little more chew on the inside. I accidentally put 3/4 teaspoon more cinamon in the mix but it tastes perfect. I can't wait for my family to come home and taste these!

Chili I

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2003
I had doubts about the cocoa powder and beer, but I tried it anyway. I can't believe how subtle the two ingredients turned out to be, and it's amazing how complimentary they are to this recipe. Those two things really make the chili! I brought some chili into work and every single person loved it! It's that good. I left out the jalepenos as a personal preference, and in the future I'll leave out the sirloin. Ground beef is enough as far as meat is concerned. I'll be making this again.
