Shaved Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Almonds

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2010
I was a doubter but am now a convert! All the adults liked it, but the kids (5yo and 2yo) stayed skeptical. It was a new food and they don't like change. I'll server it nine more times and they'll be converts also.

Broiled Asparagus with Lemon Tarragon Dressing

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2011
We loved it! My 3yo daughter munched them like they were licorice. The family was about evenly split on the dressing, so feel free to try the recipe without it. I also tried grilling the asparagus and it was awesome. Definitely doing this one again.

Cream of Fresh Asparagus Soup II

Reviewed: May 5, 2003
This was so tasty we ran out and bought asparagus so we could make more! Remember that you can use the big asparagus that you wouldn't use otherwise because it's going to be pureed. Other than doubling the recipe the only thing I would change is that I would save the asparagus heads after sauteeing and use them as garnish instead of pureeing them. Excellent recipe!

Candied Citrus Peel

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2012
This is THE recipe for candied citrus peels! We did a head-to-head tasting of these and "Sweet Candied Orange and Lemon Peel" and these won by a landslide. I've done it using both grapefruit and oranges and it turned out tasty both times. Changing the water three times allows you to really get the bitterness out of the pith (we like our peels a little chewy) and makes the peels beautifully translucent. I ramped it up a bit and rolled it in sugar after it had dried for 3 hrs and it was awesome! I also like the idea of coating it in chocolate as one reviewer did.

Russian Tea Biscuits

Reviewed: May 13, 2014
I make this for "tea" for my kids. It's a dry shortbread cookie, but very tasty. Their classmates ask me to make some for them!

Apple Sausage Pancakes

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2010
We use this syrup recipe ALL the time. I double or triple it and put some in the freezer for those times I can't get fresh apple cider. Yummy on any pancake! I don't have pumpkin pie spice (and have always found they have too much cinnamon for us) so I use a combination of nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and ginger.

Broiled Scallops

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2003
These were very tasty and easy to make. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone who likes scallops but has been scared to cook them.

Lime Chicken Picante

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2003
This was so good it's now in my permanent collection! It was incredibly easy to make (1 lime equals one tablespoon of lime juice) and enjoyed by everyone at the dinner party. I made it with dark meat and white meat instead of all breasts. Also, there wasn't really enough marinade remaining to make the glaze. I served it with the yogurt and crushed pineapple -- my guests said that the pineapple gave it just the right amount of tartness. A real winner!

Easy Mushroom Rice

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2003
This was super-easy to make. Since our household love mushrooms I doubled the amount and it received rave reviews. My only complaint is that it's pretty fatty, so try to use good-for-you broth/boullion and cut the butter in half. Everyone asks for it now!

Navy Bean Soup I

Reviewed: May 27, 2006
The only bean soup we make anymore. Added a big ham bone (with some meat still on it) from an earlier meal. Yum!

Healthier Southern Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2014
Yummy! This is now my go-to peach cobbler recipe. You can really taste the peachy goodness. I didn't have whole wheat pastry flour, so I just used regular old all-purpose.

Strawberry Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2004
This was very yummy! It freezes well, too. I used the bundt pan, increased the strawberries by at least half, and used about half whole wheat flour.

Very tasty. Even my new non-salmon lovers liked it.

Chicken and Mushroom Chowder

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2010
This was pretty good. I used barley instead of rice and added some green beans I had laying around. It didn't make us stand up and cheer but it was good and filling.

Really yummy. We did blend the tomatoes and peppers to get it past the kids, and served it with Fritos. Very popular!

These are really tasty! The cornmeal gives it a nice change from the too-sweet versions.

Spinach Cheese Pie

Reviewed: May 5, 2003
This was good, but turned out pretty runny for me and didn't hold together. I'll make it again with shredded mozzarella and cook it longer (to get a crispy crust). The taste was excellent, though.

Irish Brown Soda Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2004
This bread is incredibly dense. The crust was so hard I thought it was a goner, but when I opened it up and spread butter on it it was yummy. Not what I was looking for, but still pretty darn good. My partner ate a whole loaf before dinner.

Beef and Barley Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2003
This was a tasty and filling. I changed it by using the beef cubes for stew instead of dealing with the bones. That one change saved me a lot of time.

Sweet Candied Orange and Lemon Peel

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2012
This was good, but the recipe called "Candied Citrus Peel" was better. Changing the water a few times really cuts the bitterness in any remaining pith, and makes the peel more translucent.
