Pecan Pie V

Like many other reviewers said.....I will NEVER make another pecan pie with corn syrup. Absolutely delicious. Sure, the stick of butter seems like a lot but come on.....it's a pie...you're not eating it because you're trying to lose weight.

New Orleans Corn Bisque with Smoked Sausage

This is a delicious dish. I changed it up a little bit by rendering some bacon (about 4 strips) first....frying it until very crisp.....I removed the crisp bacon (and reserved it) and then followed the recipe as it said....instead of sprinkling parsley or cheddar cheese on the finished product I opted to sprinkle the leftover crispy bacon pieces......DELICIOUS

Coconut Curry Tofu

excellent and very easy dish. I used dried shitake mushrooms (that I reconstituted in water of course). For the chili paste I wasn't sure if it meant plain old chili paste like Sambal Oelek, or the chili paste that is actually made for curries and comes in a red or green variety? I chose to use the red curry paste and it turned out wonderful. I think next time I might leave out the yellow pepper (didn't seem to go well with the dish) and add frozen peas and bamboo shoots instead. Served it with brown rice (which I over cooked a little....but as a result gave it a paella-like crunch) and was in heaven.

Chinese Mabo Tofu

I followed this recipe exactly and it turned out great. I used low sodium tamari instead of regular soy sauce. It was still a little on the salty side I thought....but good anyway.

Chinese Chicken Fried Rice II

I was surprised how good this turned out as it's such a simple recipe. I used part chicken strips and part turkey sausage (casing removed) and added some chili flakes for heat. Also used brown rice since that's all I had....gave it a nuttier flavor....yum!!

Filipino Pork Adobo

This actually turned out pretty good for me, with a few modifications. I left out the ketchup because that just doesn't sound appealing to me. I used low sodium soy sauce, distilled white vinegar, and a little bit of rice vinegar to add some sweetness. I used whole peppercorns instead of ground black pepper. After simmering the pork I fried it in a little bit of olive oil (as is traditionally how it's done) allowing the sauce to reduce and thicken a bit. I left out the green beans as well.....didn't seem like it went well.

Best Chicken Ever

this was a pretty good recipe. I didn't want to buy a whole box of cornflakes....so I just used some Matzo meal that was already in my cubbard. I used olive oil instead of the butter to make it a little healthier. I wouldn't say DELICIOUS....but it was really good!

Baked Tofu Bites

I used low sodium soy sauce and still found this recipe to be WAAAAAAAY too salty......also....the cooking time should be adjusted....or watched very carefully. The sugar in the maple syrup over carmelized and almost tasted burnt! Wasn't inedible but I probably won't make it again!

Vegan Black Bean Soup

Just made this for dinner tonight. Delicious. I doubled the carrots and celery it called for. I noticed some reviews said it was too salty, so I made sure to drain and rinse all the canned ingredients and added salt to taste at the end. I had about 8oz of firm tofu sitting in my fridge so I cubed it up and threw it in. When I served the soup I sprinkled a teaspoon of Nutritional Yeast on top. Nutritional Yeast gives the soup a great cheesy flavor and is great for vegans because it gives you B12 which is usually found in animal sources!!

Eggnog Cheesecake III

Delicious. I made a few changes. I used a different crust recipe: 2 cups graham cracker crumbs, 1 stick melted butter, 1/2 tsp cinnamon...it's more fattening but a much better crust. I skipped the 10 minute crust baking step and instead put the crust in the fridge while I was assembling the rest of the cake. I didn't have rum so I substituted vanilla extract like someone else suggested. Follow the cooking instructions exactly, and DO NOT open the oven during baking, and your cheesecake will be perfect......DELICIOUS!!

The Best Vegetarian Chili in the World

Very tasty chili. I just used three 28oz cans of crushed tomatoes,instead of whole tomatoes crushed by hand like the recipe suggests. The chili comes out thicker that way (the way I like it). I thought the veggie burger crumbles were overpriced at my grocery store (6 dollars for a 12oz package) so I just bought boca burgers and chopped them up. I seeded the jalapenos before adding them because I used a really hot chili powder, and didn't want to kill myself haha. I served it with elbow macaroni but it goes great with rice as well! MAKES A TON

Baked Spaghetti I

This recipe was ok. When I try a recipe for the first time I follow it exactly as written....and then make adjustments the next time. This dish was good but needs way more sauce. Instead of a small can of diced tomatoes, next time I'll add a large can of San Marzano diced tomatoes. Skip the canned mushrooms and add fresh mushrooms (just saute them with the onions and peppers to release the liquid). I used ground goat instead of ground beef because it is healthier and delicious. I would also mix in some mozarella cheese next time....and perhaps leave out the cheddar altogether....I associate Cheddar with Mexican dishes....and this is Italian.....didn't like the taste.

Beef Enchiladas II

I don't know if the person that wrote this recipe has ever had "real" enchiladas....but these are not them. Pretty tasty (I mean how can you go wrong with groung beef and onions) just kind of plain tasting.

German Apple Pancake

Seriously delicious and very simple. If you're tired of making regular, boring, American pancakes...then you have to try these.....even if you don't have maple syrup a little powdered sugar on the finished product is all you need.....highly recommended....I always make these for family get-togethers....everyone thinks I'm a master chef but little do they know how easy they are!!!

Salt and Pepper Squid

I did not care for this recipe. I was very excited to make it because I love squid.....but all I could taste was cornstarch. I was curious why the recipe even called for it....just flour seasoned the way you like it works just fine!

Aunt Betty's Banana Pudding

I don't understand why this has an average of 4 stars....it's the best banana pudding I've ever tasted.....I used 1 package of instant vanilla pudding and one package of banana cream pudding.....and I used french vanilla flavored cool whip....it came out soooooooo good......disappears with company......everytime!!
