Slow Cooker Thanksgiving Turkey

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2006
This came out quite nicely. I omitted the bacon, but the meat came out flavorful and moist. It was great to be able to free up my oven for other Thanksgiving dishes.

Apple Pecan Corn Bread Dressing

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2006
While I liked the flavor of this dressing, mine came out too dry. Perhaps it was because I halved it and maybe the proportions weren't right. If I try it again, I would definatley add more juice or broth to the stuffing.

Modenese Pork Chops

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2006
We didn't care for this much. The pork still came out tough and dry. The sauce that is made is very flavorful but couldn't make up for the chop itself.

Hot Fudge Sauce II

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2006
This was certainly an acceptable hot fudge sauce but it didn't have the depth of flavor I was expecting. Maybe I should have added less cream because it seemed to thin to me. I will probably look for another recipe.

Green Beans with Cherry Tomatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2005
I didn't like this as much as i thought i would. I did use frozen green beans rather than fresh. Perhaps that made the difference. To me, there was something off about the flavor. a little too sweet. Maybe some acid from lemon or vinegar would have helped.

Grilled Sausage Burrito

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2005
I loved the roasted peppers and the chorizo, and the beans. I added less salsa then it called for because I thought it made it too wet. I also added some Monterey Jack cheese to it. My guests enjoyed this and I would make it again.

Pasta e Fagioli II

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2004
I would give this a mixed rating. I really liked it. It was a very hearty vegetable soup. My husband, on the other hand, said it was "adequate" but he didn't love it. Of course, I have a hard time getting him to eat his veggies. These are the substitutions I made. I used turkey bacon rather than prosciutto (my grocery was out of it). I used half tomato juice and half tomato puree. I added some broccoli and zucchini because I had some I needed to use up in my fridge. I used balsamic vinegar because I really love it. I added more cayenne than it called for. Next time I would use white beans rather than red.

Marbled Pumpkin Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2004
I was very disappointed in this cheesecake. I thought the gingersnap crust would be good but it had a slightly burnt taste and got soggy. I also thought the cheesecake part needed something...was not punpkiny or spicy enough. I'll try another recipe next time.

Catfish Roasted with Sesame Seeds, Basil, Garlic and Spinach

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2004
I thought this was very tasty and elegant. Next time I might use a different fish such as tilapia since the fish wasn't quite done after the indicated time and because my husband doesn't like the texture of catfish. But overall I thought the flavors were excellent.

Turkey Polish Sausage and Peppers

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2004
This was really a 4 1/2 star. I thought the flavors were great. This is one of the few ways I've found that I like polish keilbasa. Like others I used just one red and yellow pepper and one zuchinni. Otherwise I followed the recipe exactly.

Beef and Bean Chimichangas

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2004
I liked the way the were baked. They came out nice and crunchy. But these didn't have enough kick for my family. Instead of taco sauce I'd use salsa or enchilada sauce. I won't make them again.

Maple Roast Turkey and Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2004
The turkey smelled wonderful while cooking but it came out a little dry (and I cooked it less time than the recipe said) and I felt that all the butter that was used in the syrup glaze just didn't add that much more flavor to the turkey. The recipe said to cook the turkey to 180 degrees. Other recipes for roast turkey say between 170-175 degrees. Next time I would definately cook it less time.

Paneer

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2004
This as my first attempt to make paneer and this recipe made it very easy. I thought the paneer turned out well. The recipe I used for saag paneer wasn't so great (it was from a different website) but the paneer was great.

Kulfi

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2004
I am part of a supper club and our theme this month was Indian. I was assigned the dessert and brought this recipe. Everyone loved it! I added the cardamom and cinnamon right into the ice cream (as another reviewer suggested) and I sprinkled each person's serving with chopped pistachios. It made for a very pretty presentation. It was almost embarrasing how easy it was!

This recipe for salmon was not as flavorful as some I have tried. I would not make this again.

Excellent and Healthy Cornbread

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2004
This had a very nice comsistency and taste. It was not as crumbly as other cornbread. I substituted honey for sugar and added some corn to the batter.

Mexican Rice II

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2004
This rice has great flavor! My rice came out a little crunchy but that was my fault because I used brown rice (although I did increase the cooking time accordingly) and I think I needed a little more liquid. I added more cumin and chilli powder, onion as others had suggested. It was a little too salty for my taste so I think next time I will use low sodium chicken broth or maybe use half garlic salt/ half garlic powder.

Double Cherry Pie II

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2004
This makes a very yummy cherry pie. I've made it twice now - once with frozen cherries and once with fresh. Both turned out great. Instead of using a pie crust on top, I used a streusel topping like you would use on top of a crisp or crumnle. Wonderful served with vanilla ice cream.
