French Beef Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2005
I used the cheapest cut of meat I could find and cut into cubes myself. Browned the meat with onion and garlic; added more spices and lots more veggies and red wine. Cooked the meat for an hour before adding the veggies and it is melt in your mouth tender.

Three Bean Slow Burn Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2006
My husband of 35 years says this is the best chili I've ever made. I cut back on a little of the heat (only 2 Habanero's, medium salsa, only 1 T. red pepper, and one of my cans of Rotel was mild.) It's excellent chili, but still a little on the spicy side for my taste. If you don't have taco seasoning on hand, use Taco Seasoning I by Bill Echols, it's great and you can cut back on the salt you put into it. P.S. I have now won two chili cookoff contests; today there were 23 other entries and I won a grill. Thanks for a great recipe!!!

Banana Pudding IV

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2006
This is amazing, no changes needed. I like to layer it in a glass bowl, it's enough to do 3 layers of wafers and bananas. A pretty dessert and people just go crazy over it. Make sure cream cheese is room temp. and mix it with the condensed milk till smooth so you don't end up with lumps. Also very good with banana cream/vanilla puddings mixed.

Spicy Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2009
I saw the look on my husband's face when he saw ground turkey but he didn't say anything. I thought maybe he wouldn't even try them, but he did and he raved, and raved over them and wants them again tomorrow night. I used one large jalapeno with seeds instead of chile peppers, everything else the same. Used the George Foreman grill and served with mango/coconut pepper sauce found in the condiment section of Publix. Amazing burgers!

Didn't have pancetta on hand so used partially cooked bacon. This was wonderful with shrimp added and served over pasta.

Shanibars

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2012
I wouldn't agree that there is NO sugar in these, as the chopped dates are generally coated in sugar, commercial peanut butter has added sugar, and packaged coconut is usually sweetened. But they are excellent, and a much healthier choice than the traditional no bake cookies which have lots of butter & sugar in them.

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2013
I made double topping and baked half of it in the pan for 15 min. for a bottom crust. Made the rest according to the recipe except I forgot the water. It may have made the crust soggy anyway. Used Granny Smith apples and served with whipped cream. It is amazing :)

Lemon Bundt Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2003
Mmmmm! Eating this right now, still warm. I cut back on the oil to l/2 cup and added lemon zest. Glazed while hot with l/4 c. fresh lemon juice, l/2c. sugar, and more lemon zest boiled into a syrup. Thought I messed it up because I put all the wet ingredients in the bowl together THEN read the directions. It's great, but beating the carbonated beverage probably affected it. P.S. I made it a second time, following the directions exactly, only adding lemon zest to the batter. As expected, the cake rose better since I didn't beat in the Sprite.

Crispy and Creamy Doughnuts

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2003
The first time I made these, I was pretty embarrassed about how they looked. The second time, I used the bread machine and added flour until the dough lost its stickiness. Rolled them out, cut them, and didn't let them rise so much before frying because they become too thick with no holes. They looked and tasted just like the real thing, but they don't keep well.

Tomato Chicken Parmesan

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2003
Fast, easy, and delicious! I added garlic to the seasoned bread crumbs and used Classico brand basil and tomato sauce run through the food processor to get rid of the chunks of tomato. A sprinkle of freshly grated parmesan cheese on top of each serving gives it great flavor.
