because I'm pregnant

falling in love

So, it's that time of the year again: fall.  I'm a big fan of the fall and winter seasons.  I especially like cinnamon broomsticks, festive scented candles, thankfulness, cheerfulness, generousness, that Christmas song that they sing at church pagents about Mary being pregnant, and watching people open the presents I bought them.  I think everyone should be in a "Thanksgiving" attitude and a "Christmas" spirit all year long.  But, alas, my Miss World wish will not come true any time soon and most people, including myself, are in a after-the-big-meal attitude most of the time: lazy, lackadaisical, & overstuffed.

To get myself in "the mood" (the holiday mood, duh), I scouted allrecipes for the finest, most festive fall bakery goodies.  While I am still working through my list, I thought I would post the recipes & reviews I have completed thusfar:

Pumpkin Bread
This recipe is perfect!! I mean, holy smokes, this is so delicious-- it is by FAR my favorite baking recipe of all time. I was a little concerned about baking three loaves but I was wrong. This stuff is disappearing so fast-- I mean, a whole loaf in three hours between four people. Yeah, it's that good. You will kick yourself if you don't make three loaves. No joke, this stuff is like the tears of God.

(PS- this recipe is a five star, must make!)

Cranberry Orange Cookies
These cookies were very good but not the best I've ever had. I'm glad I chose to make less cookies than the original recipe called for. I reduced the serving size to 24 cookies and somehow only got 13 out of the recipe. I can't imagine how small they would have to be to make a full 24. I would make it again but I wouldn't tell my coworkers, "These cookies will blow your mind up!"... Instead, I'd just say, "I made cookies- yes, they are free and no, they are not poisonous."

(PS- my gent loved these cookies and they were still eagerly gobbled up by my coworkers, I guess I was the only one that wasn't crazy about the cran-orange cookies?)

Peanut Butter Cup Cookies
These cookies are so stinkin' good, I'm going to need an intervention! I'm not a big peanut butter person nor do I like peanut butter cookies. These, however, have me switching teams. My dough seemed a little dry so I added two more tablespoons of milk-- it was a smart move because the final product was to die for. I brought some into work and, in ten minutes, they were gone. Thankfully, I was smart enough to make a personal stash at home. They are just too good to play generous.

(PS- another five-star must make, in two days these babies are G-O-N-E, not a crumb left, everyone wants me to make more and I was told that I could sell them (this would probably similar to dealing crack, so I will have to e-mail my old ethics professor and ask him how he feels about this gray area...) While these might not be "fall" cookies, they are sweet and indulgent so I posted them anyway!)

I have to remember to photograph my creations before they are consumed but they don't sit around long enough for me to consider doing anything to them other than eating them or weeping over their deliciousness.

Happy fall to everyone!  I hope these recipes help you get in "the mood" (for the holidays, duh)...

Air conditioning-- what would we do without whoever invented it... you think I would know the name of such an important inventor.

About Me
I'm 22 and a momma to a lovely little bundle of love and poop named Riley Rose and another bundle of love and poop, a dog, named Salinger. My human and non-human animal keep me pretty busy. When I'm not changing diapers, acting as a human cow, or vacuuming up shredded tissues, I am a wizard in the kitchen, whipping up tasty vegetarian concoctions that are kind to my animal pals. Allrecipes.com is my best friend and I try to return the food love by leaving recipe reviews and ratings that have a pinch of self-serving-humor.
My favorite things to cook
All things delicious-- anything sweet and ovenly is heavenly
My favorite family cooking traditions
My cooking tradition was disinterest and scoffing at all things culinary. For 18 years, I rejected the notion that I would ever be found slaving in the kitchen. Much to my mother's dismay, I denied all her attempts at teaching me how to cook. After leaving for college and realizing that good dinners don't grow in microwaves, I had to attempt to learn my way around the kitchen. After many failed recipes and trash bags full of inedible food, my kitchen thumb is now as green as the neighbor's jealousy at how delicious my apartment smells. Food should be fun but sometimes cooking new recipes can be stressful. Thanks to allrecipes, I get to learn from everyone else's mistakes, too bad I didn't learn that sooner.
