because I'm pregnant

a little introduction

I'm 21 and pregnant and, as you can imagine, I love me some food. On top of working full time, I come home and cook fine feasts for my gentleman, my unborn little lady, and my devil-spawn puppy, Salinger. We eat well, love well, and shred various household items well when we aren't supposed to. Some of us go to obedience classes, some of us kick inside our mommies tummies after delicious dinners, and the two non-hairy varieties keep themselves busy with errands, spankings (of naughty doggies), baby preparations, and gazing longingly into each other's eyes.

My cooking tradition was disinterest and scoffing at all things culinary. For 18 years, I rejected the notion that I would ever be found slaving in the kitchen. Much to my mother's dismay, I denied all her attempts at teaching me how to cook. After leaving for college and realizing that good dinners don't grow in microwaves, I had to attempt to learn my way around the kitchen. After many failed recipes and trash bags full of inedible food, my kitchen thumb is now as green as the neighbor's jealousy at how delicious my apartment smells.

I was vegetarian and aspiring vegan before I found out my eggo was preggo. However, my need for quality protein extends above and beyond hummus and beans so you can now find me munching on all my animal kingdom buddies, engaging in the circle of life, etc. etc. When the baby bun has emerged from the proverbial oven, I plan on teaching her the importance of respecting animals and treating them with dignity.  However, since my gentleman who feels that a meal is not complete without meat, we are bound to a carnivorous diet for a while.

Food should be fun but sometimes cooking new recipes can be stressful. Thanks to allrecipes, I get to learn from everyone else's mistakes, too bad I didn't learn that life lesson sooner.  My cooking specialties are all things baked.  If it is oven-ly, it is heaven-ly. I also love soups.  I will eat them in a box, I will eat them with a fox, I will eat them in my bed, I will eat them until I'm dead.  They are easy, cheap, and simple to re-heat.  < / rhyme time >  My gent isn't a fan of an all-liquid meal plan so I am constantly dabbling with new recipes & this is my new outlet to drool over, vent about, and discuss my life in the kitchen.

Congratulations, Thanksalot! Sounds like you have your hands full. Like you, I didn't spend much time in the kitchen as a teenager, I think that perhaps it's a lot more enjoyable to be the mistress of your own kitchen than helper in someone else's. But once married I learned. Haven't poisoned anyone yet- lol. I think becoming a mother also adds more motivation to cooking. I wanted to pass on to my children my family's food traditions, and learning to do that made me feel more connected to the past and to the future. Good luck, and when are you due?

About Me
I'm 22 and a momma to a lovely little bundle of love and poop named Riley Rose and another bundle of love and poop, a dog, named Salinger. My human and non-human animal keep me pretty busy. When I'm not changing diapers, acting as a human cow, or vacuuming up shredded tissues, I am a wizard in the kitchen, whipping up tasty vegetarian concoctions that are kind to my animal pals. Allrecipes.com is my best friend and I try to return the food love by leaving recipe reviews and ratings that have a pinch of self-serving-humor.
