About this Cook
I've been an at home cook & baker since 7th grade. I loved Home Ec & learned the basics there. I didn't cook much with my mother, but learned many good tips from my Grandmothers. I prefer to bake versus cook.
My favorite things to cook
Homemade bread, Great-Granda Neiman's sugar cookies, marinated steak for my husband, slow-cooker & cassaroles. Simple, old fashioned food. I enjoy cooking for others & am surprised when something turns out delicious that I did without a recipe.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Gravy & fried eggs. I learned how to do both from my grandmother. It is a lesson I will always hold dear. I'm forever grateful to my grandmother for her delicious cooking. She inspired me!
My cooking triumphs
I feel triumphant every time something turns out DELICIOUS! I remember the first time I made homemade bread & jam. What a joy to realize how much I enjoy homemaking.
My cooking tragedies
In the beginning, I burned up so much food! My poor daughter. At the time I was a single mom, we'd sit down at the table & I'd say, now Leah, if this isn't good we can just throw it away & have a sandwich. Ok? LOL! I really had no idea how to cook. It just takes practice & experimentation. And a willingness to just toss a bad trial run & eat PB&J. :))

Stuffing for Slow Cooker
Made this for our sage dressing for Tgiving 2014. It was a hit! Coincidentally a family member had made oven baked sage dressing too, and this recipe blew it out of the water. Slow cooker dressing was moist & flavorful, not mushy. I did not use all the broth the recipe calls for, just moistened the stuffing like it would look coming out of the bird. I also omitted the marjoram.
