My grandmother and mother were highly competitive (with each other) cooks, so I took a seat and let them do all the work. Now they are both gone, I'm getting more interested in cooking. I'm not an avid fan and have to be in the mood, but I'm becoming more confident at it.
My favorite things to cook
casseroles, slow cooked meals
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love "family dinners" - meat, potatoes, veggie, and dessert, gathered around the table, talking, no rush. These are rare, but special times.
My cooking triumphs
I've only cooked one Thanksgiving meal (2007). Usually we go to my brother's but it had to be held at my house that year. I was newly divorced and trying to find my "new" self. It was the first Thanksgiving since my mom passed away. Despite all that, the meal was a success and somehow everything was ready at the same time and served hot! :)
My cooking tragedies
Preparing a nice chicken dinner for my in-laws and realizing at the last minute I had forgotten to make gravy for the potatoes (because I never eat gravy!)
