It seems like every year we resolve to eat better, exercise more, and take better care of our overall health. All too often, we get off track by February and fall right back into our bad habits.
2012 is going to be different.
It's going to be different because this year I am so motivated to feel better!
In 2010 I was diagnosed with an endocrine disorder that had gone undetected for over 4 years.
It caused me to gain 90 lbs, have horrible acne, and no energy. I began treatment in September 2010 and the weight started melting off. By September 2011, I had lost 40 lbs!
The acne is gone, and I feel worlds better!!
However, the medication alone isn't going to cure me. I need to be making healthier lifestyle choices in order to lose the rest of this unwanted fat and to attain my ideal healthy weight of 135 lbs.
I'm a baker at heart. Truly, I am not happy unless I've got something scrumptious in the kitchen!
I enjoy the baking more than the eating of the treats I make...but it isn't doing anything fantastic for my waistline. I'm also not teaching my three children about healthy eating by loading them up with treats on a daily basis.
So, I've been making small changes. Working out in the mornings with Wii Fit or a brisk walk, weather permitting.
Eating 1/2 cup of oatmeal with cinnamon & Splenda instead of a cinnamon roll or pancakes.
Soda has been banned from my house and I'm making my husband reluctantly drink water or Crystal Light lemonade instead. (This part, has really been a challenge. Men apparently take their soft drinks very seriously!)
I've swapped Splenda for sugar in almost all of my recipes, and found it to be a very suitable change.
I've swapped all my family's favorite treats and snacks for low-fat, reduced calorie, and baked versions.
Luckily, my daughter and I both love vegetables, so we've been making veggie & fruit trays together and packing my younger children's lunches together.
I've been choosing wholesome, healthy meals for dinner and lean, low-fat lunches for my family. We all seem to be feeling better. I've even lost about 5 more lbs since the beginning of January! :)
I can't wait to see where we are as a healthy family at this time next year!
