Peach and Goat Cheese Tartine

Reviewed: May 2, 2014
Easy recipe and good, although, wait until late Summer. I did these with peaches this week and the peaches just weren't that good. Not the recipe's fault. The black pepper really makes the dish.

Spicy Mediterranean Chicken with Sausage-Stuffed Cherry Peppers

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2014
This dish is fabulous, impressive and even won over my mom that says she doesn't like the thigh. I used sweet Italian sausage and skipped the Marjoram (didn't have it, didn't miss it). A wonderful and impressive dish.

Chef John's Turkey Burger

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2013
This was a huge hit with my family because I didn't think my dad would care for the garam masala, surprise, he loved the spiciness. I on the other hand thought it was a little overpowering. I will definitely use this recipe for turkey burgers going forward, but will substitute the garam masala for other spices. The texture of the burgers were fabulous and we all loved the addition of ground almonds. At the last minute during assembly I found out we were out of mayo - so I had to throw something together - I used some of the low-fat Greek and put it in the food processor with fresh cilantro, basil, ginger, lemongrass and fresh lemon - OMG, it was DELICIOUS and complimented the burger perfectly!

Good, simple and easy weeknight dinner. Kids will love 'em. I do more gourmet recipes, but this is ok.

Grandwich Breakfast Sandwiches

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2013
Very easy quick breakfast and family loves the Pillsbury biscuits! My reservation on the 5th star is no information on scrambling the eggs. Without a GREAT scrambled egg, it would lack the flavor and consistency. I scramble my eggs with the bacon fat and fresh herbs and some of the shredded cheese with another slice in the sandwich. This is a good recipe for camping as well!

Lemon Dream Bars

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2013
This had mixed reviews, but not because the recipe isn't good - just some people are purists and didn't care for the additional of the nuts and coconut. My only addition is it needs more lemon, so I doubled both the lemon juice and the zest.

The Original Kielbasa and Sauerkraut

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2013
This is good, but my mom really doctors up the sauerkraut to make it super tasty. She cooks up some bacon, removes bacon and sautes an onion in the bacon fat and then lays the sauerkraut on top of the onions to let them brown about 10-15 minutes (stirring a few times) and next adds about 3/4th cup of dry white wine and lets it simmer for about 45 minutes to an hour, stirring every 15 minutes (just so it doesn't burn).

Mixed Greens with Smoked Gouda

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2013
I thought the vinaigrette was very good. I totally forgot to put in the Gouda cheese before taking the picture - it was delicious with and without.

Rosemary Pull-Apart Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2013
Super easy to make and absolutely delicious! I made half the batch as per CJ, putting them close together on a baking sheet to "pull apart" and the other half in muffin tins. Both were equally good and presentation wise, both pretty. This is going to be my go to recipe for dinner rolls and substitute herbs to along with my menus. Also, I made the lemon herb butter on this site and the two were great compliments to one another!

Nutella® Hazelnut Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2013
These cookies are AWESOME! Totally yummy. I left out the hazlenuts ONLY because my son won't eat nuts. I tried out a 1/2 batch and they vanished. I'm making a double batch tomorrow to take to the PTA meeting. Thank you for a super YUMMY recipe! p.s. - don't overbake, they will set-up perfectly as written.

Rouxless Gumbo

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2013
I made this for the New Orleans Super Bowl. I thought it was good, although family members missed the the thickening the roux provides along with that nutty flavor. I'm giving it 4 stars for including file powder an absolute must for the dish and I've seen so many recipes without it. This is a good soup,

Spaetzle, Sauerkraut and Sausage Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2012
This casserole was loved by all. I too was apprehensive about adding the apples, so I compromised by making them and putting the on the side. I did not care for the added sweetness of the apples, but mom and another guest loved it. I have never made Spaetzle before and oh my goodness, it is so easy! Little dd I know my mom had her mother's Spaetzle maker which was just handed down to me! I had so much fun making this casserole. I think this would be a great recipe for a crowd as well. Thanks for a great recipe!

Pomodoro Pasta Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2012
Unfortunately, this wasn't what I was looking for. I was looking for a smooter sauce. I also used beef broth. Here is what is strange (for me), I did not care AT ALL for the wine in the sauce. I LOVE wine in sauces, but I think with a vegetable sauce, just doesn't go. I always use red wine in my pasta sauces that include meat, but didn't care for it here. Nothing flawed with the recipe, just not my favorite.

White Chip Orange Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2012
I thought these were great and very versatile. I did change modify the recipe, just a little bit. I added orange craisins (that I soaked in oragne juice) and to half the batter I added toasted cashews. They were devoured!

Jumbo Dark Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2012
These were absolutely FANTASTIC! Everybody loved them. I was concerned when I made (the first of 3 batches) because it was a really stiff, but it came out perfect. Also, I think the amount of chocolate chips is perfect (comes out to exactly the 11oz bag). As for those that think they were too salty, use unsalted butter. I always use unsalted in baking unless recipe specifically states otherwise. I got 20 cookies using a cookie scoop. This is definietely being added to my normal cookie rotation - Tollhouse Original Chocolate Chip cookies have been a family staple since I was born!

Jumbo Whole Wheat Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2012
I made this recipe almost exactly and it was just ok. The only change I made was tossing the blueberries in a little flour before adding to the mix so they don't sink to the bottom. The muffins were nice and fluffy - so A+ on that. The flavor was just ok, not bad, just nothing over the top. I would recommend using low-fat buttermilk instead of skim, butter not necessary and when just soft, doesn't mix well. Try adding in some vanilla or plain Greek yogurt.

Bon Appetit's Meatballs

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2012
As or the flavor, absolutely fantastic! I was worried because I thought I should add some herbs, resisted doing it and glad I did. Everybody loved them! As for cooking, I browned them in butter with olive oils and finished them in the oven at 375 for 20 minutes. Great leftovers on a sandwich with marinara sauce.

Santa's Little Helper

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2012
I absolutely LOVE the name and so jealous I didn't think of it! This is a standard drink combo at any bar, nothing special. But, if you haven't tried it before, the cranberry gives a nice sweetness to the grapefruit. For me, you MUST use Ruby Red grapfruit juice - white won't work. Ruby Red Absolute is one of my all time favorite vodka's, but if you use Ruby Red grapefruit juice, you don't have to buy the RR vodka. I also like adding lime to it.
