Mrs. Sigg's Fresh Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2012
Everyone loved it. I was a little concerned because it was so watery when I put it in the crust but I followed the directions exactly for cooking it. It was perfect.

Baking Powder Drop Biscuits

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2011
WOW. These were fantastic! I didn't have cream of tartar so I didn't use any. I substituted organic coconut oil for the shortening and lactose free/fat free milk with omega threes for the milk. I also cooked them for 4 minutes at 450 and 8 minutes at 400. They were perfect light and tender even plain. The family ate them with sausage gravy. They were just as easy as bisquick. I will be making my own from now on. I can't wait to try these as dumplings!

Baked Cod with Boursin Herb Cheese

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2011
Very good. The kids and husband hated it but they hate any fish that isn't battered and deep fried so I didn't expect anything different from them. I enjoyed it a lot. I made mine with Tilapia on a bed of spinach and used the light Boursin. I also served it with light pasta. I thought it was delish.

Absolute Best Liver and Onions

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2011
I have to eat liver a couple times because my B12 tanked along with my iron and the doctor is trying to raise it with some dietary changes and vitamins. I'm sure the recipe is fine so I gave it a four but I'm sorry. I was reallay hoping this recipe would make it better since i have to eat it but it didn't I made it with more expensive calves liver, rinsed it soaked it in milk a long time and cooked it as directed. I'll make it this way again because I have to eat it and it is a good recipe but there are no miracles when it comes to liver :o(

Pot Roast in Beer

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2011
Outstanding. I didn't add the cloves or bay leaf. I used polish beer and a jar of turkey gravy/three cans of sliced mushrooms because I didn't have mushroom soup. I also used salt pepper and garlic/pepper on the roast before i cooked it. I was worried about cooking a roast in the roasting pan on top of the stove because my pan is large and oval. I was afraid it would ruin the pan or heat unevenly but it was perfect. I let my three pound angus chuck roast simmer for 4 hours while I worked around the house. It smelled heavenly and was perfect when I served it. I threw baking potatoes and whole carrots in next to the roast. Very easy and tasty.

Beef Pot Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2010
I didn't read closely enough and added my usual 1 cup water and half cup wine to the pan before I put the roast in the oven. I was nervous but it was still nice and tender. This is a good recipe. I'm looking forward to trying it again without the liquid

Sorry wasn't much substance to this. I like vegetable soup but this needed something else. Frustrating waste of time.

Garlic Chicken Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2010
Outstanding! I browned this in oil and then baked at 385 for 25 minutes on a broiling pan. I had boneless breasts that I pounded thin. It was the most tender an juicy chicken I have made. Not the best cook here so it was a happy suprise to eat something good that I actually made.

Candied Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2010
This is probably the first time I have ever made chicken breasts and had them come out so good and JUICY. I can't believe how yummy they are. My sauce was very juicy and didn't really thicken but it could be thickened up after removing the chicken. I made flavored rice to go with it so it didn't really matter to me. The flavor was excellent. The only think I did different is I used half a can of crushed pinapple in place of the water and I didn't add the rings after it was finished.

Pork Chops with Sour Cream and Mushroom Sauce

Reviewed: May 22, 2009
My kids and my husband loved this. VERY easy. Very good and we had lots of sauce leftover. The next day we used the sauce over some pasta and added some steamed asparagus to it. Two fantastic easy dinners. Thanks

Juicy Butt Steaks

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2008
I was hesitant to try this as well because of the ketchup and water but thought with so many good ratings it must be great. It was just ok for us. I did add some rosemary and thyme because we like them and it did have a nice flavor overall. I just wasn't crazy about all the sauce. It was very watery and overpowered with tomato flavor. My meat was thin and was falling apart at just 75 minutes even though I simmered it so I turned it off and we ate early. The meat was tender and the seasonings were good but overall it would have been better without all the watery tomato (and we like tomato, just not on our pork) If I had let the sauce cook down much longer so it was thicker and had more time to absorb the other flavors I think it would have been just fine. It was just too watery with 70-90 minutes cooking time. If your steaks are thin cut the water by half maybe or really cook it slow. I'm giving it 4 stars even though I probably wouldn't make it again. Nothing wrong with it but it didn't knock my socks off. My husband who hates sauces on meat said it was ok and ate it all. The kids liked the flavor of the sauce but not the meat (go figure) Overall, a decent easy to make meal but just not our cup of tea.

Grandma's Slow Cooker Vegetarian Chili

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2005
Brilliant. I tried this for a little change from my same boring old chili. It sounded good. We are not vegetarians so i did add one pound of ground turkey to it to keep my husband and kids happy but I think it would have been just as great without it. Very very satisfying especially with corn bread on the side or crumbled over the top. Thanks for a great recipe. I'll definitely make it more often

Get a Husband Brunswick Stew

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2005
I gave this a four because there is really nothing wrong with it. Ithad a good flavor. I am just not much of a meat eater and this was PACKED with meat so I felt like I just couldn't eat more than a few bites. I would rather have a nice thick vegetable stew with 6 or 7 oz of meat. Sorry I won't make this again but Im sure meat eaters will love it.

Ann's Shrimp Etouffee

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2005
I was a little hesitant because this said "Cajun"; something I've only sampled a few times. I will definitely make this again! This was like eating out at a restaurant. It was fantastic and not that difficult to prepare. The most time consuming thing was peeling the shrimp. It was well worth it though. All three of my picky kids aged 4-10 loved it. Not an easy accomplishment.

Easy Ham and Noodles

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2003
I thought this was a great, quick meal although I did make some changes. I used a can of cream of celery and a can of cream of chicken. I also added mushrooms and peas but thought this might go very well with broccoli or asparagus too. Great comfort food. Quick and easy!

Aunt Fannie's Dinner

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2002
This didn't knock my socks off but it was very good, very easy and very fast. I like my pasta saucy so I used one 28 oz can of diced tomatoes, one small can of Italian paste and one 14 oz can of tomato puree. I only used 1 pound of ground turkey and I minced my onion very fine so my kids wouldn't see it. (If they see ANY onion, nothing gets past the lips) I used fresh garlic instead of powder. I thought the corn sounded really strange but decided to try it anyway just to eat something different. It was actually very good. I really liked the texture and flavor of the corn. It was a nice surprise. My three kids picked at it but I find it is difficult to find something all three will eat especially when they have been sneaking snacks since they got home from school. I think this would have been good with some bell pepper as well (red or green) but left it out to keep the kids happy. Same with the cheese. A good idea but I left it out to keep the kids happy.
