I have 4 grown children. I'm 58 and suffering from "empty nest syndrome". Since it's the 2 of us now, I have to change the amount I cook. I have 2 grandchildren and am always looking for recipes they love.
My favorite things to cook
Cookies, turkey dinner, tuna casseroles, pies, stir fries, pancakes and waffles. Potato salad, macaroni salad, so many things, probably I like American and Canadian food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Turkey dinner, whenever we feel like it. English roast beef dinner with Yorkshire pudding. When there is a hockey game Chinese food.
My cooking triumphs
Having turkey dinner for 35 people. Chinese food for 50. I had a big house so I could do this. I loved not only the food but the preparation and serving.
My cooking tragedies
In 1970 I was married. Shortly thereafter my mother-in-law showed me how to make bread. She made 8 to 10 loaves at a time. So that's what I did not thinking I had never done this before. I mixed it all and then let it rise. Only it never did. After waiting awhile I went behind the house and threw it over the bank. The following Spring while cleaning the yard I glance over the bank. There it still was, a big white lump. I never mentioned this tragedy to anyone for a few years.
