Hamburger Hash

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2002
This is also good with polish sausage instead of ground beef, and a dash of celery salt.

Yummy! Tastes like spruced-up hash browns.

Chicken Kiev

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2002
My family loved it! Next time we will use half the dill, though. I had chicken thighs instead of breasts so I put the butter under the skin, coated it and cooked it like you would Southern fried chicken. It worked out just fine.

Coq au Vin

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2002
I was told by a professional chef to put a handful of raisins into this dish for flavor. Also you might use a combination of white wine and port if you want something a little sweeter and grape-ier.

Dutch Babies with Farm-Style Eggs

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2002
Delicious, elegant and fun, yet relatively easy to make. I used real eggs and cracked them into a measuring cup to measure.

Belgian Iron Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2002
My Belgian mother used to make something similar. She used an electric waffle iron with extra small squares. It was imported from Belgium and Dad had to rewire a plug in the kitchen to use it. The special iron runs at a higher wattage - Mom says it makes a difference. Maybe you can find an extra small grid waffle iron at a kitchen gadget shop.

Libby's® Famous Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2002
Quick, easy and inexpensive as pumpkin pies go, but kind of dry and grainy.

Sausage Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2003
This is not a joke. I searched & found 122 websites with this recipe. Apparently it is a breakfast food. Some people like a pancake wrapped around a sausage, or maple syrup flavored sausages. I guess this is along those lines. I don't know about that sausage ice cream though. Sounds really weird.

Alysia's Basic Meat Lasagna

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2003
Easy, relatively inexpensive for lasagne, and the best lasagne I've ever tried. Even the in-laws loved it. :-)

Filipino Lumpia

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2003
Very good, but not the way I remember them. I could have done without the carrots, maybe less bell pepper too. May I suggest frying them in a shallow layer of oil instead of fully immersing them, to keep the inside ingredients from getting overly oily. I found banana ketchup labeled "banana sauce" in a Philipino grocery store. For those who have not tasted it, it's basically a sweet & sour & hot (or mild) mix of banana and cayenne pepper. It looks just like ketchup but it has no actual ketchup in it. It tastes better than you would think on lumpias. My son and I liked it so much we tried it on everything else we could think of, just to taste.

Cuban Shredded Pork

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2003
The taste was okay, but I was disappointed by how dry it was, like wood chips, no sauce at all. My husband, who was raised on Cuban food, said "what is this?"

Overnight Cinnamon Rolls I

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2003
Wonderful, charming comfort food, and easier than I thought it would be to cook. I particularly enjoyed checking on them in the morning and seeing how plump and delicious-smelling they had become overnight. I also like the fact there are no weird or expensive ingredients. I'll use a little bigger pan next time because they were a bit overcrowded, and I'll add just a little more brown sugar & cinnamon. Be careful not to let them overheat during rising or they will stop rising too soon and be like little hockey pucks.

Best Moist Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2003
Exceptionally fine, "short" crumb gives a delightful texture. I drizzled a maple flavored glaze on the top. I could see this cake with maybe a rum topping too. It's a very addictive cake, yet somehow it would have seemed more satisfying if it were a bit more fudgey.

Cowpoke Beans

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2003
Tasted strange and not much like chili as I know it, even for vegetarian chili. My husband loved the balance of spices used, so I thought next time I'd try adding some ground beef for that more traditional chili flavor.
