One Pan Orecchiette Pasta

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2015
Great recipe, Chef John! Easy, fast, and delicious. My only changes: sweet Italian sausage instead of hot (I added a couple of splashes of hot sauce to the broth to kick it up), and spinach instead of arugula. My husband loved it, and I will make it often. Thanks for your tip about the salt--I didn't add any at all because I didn't have low-sodium broth, and it tasted perfect.

Johnny's Spice Rub

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2015
This is a fantastic rub, and so easy to make! It was fabulous on roast pork, and I can hardly wait to try it on grilled chicken. This is now a staple in my kitchen. If you try it, you'll love it.

Balsamic Roasted Pork Loin

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2015
This was fabulous! I followed the recipe exactly, and it produced really tender, flavorful, delicious pork. Our family loved it, and I've been asked to make it again. The rub I used is Johnny's Spice Rub(also from this site). and it was wonderful. I plan to use it on chicken and steak as well as pork. The only down-side is what happens to the roasting pan--I used corning ware, and it took me two days to clean off the burnt food. But it was worth it!

Pork Supreme

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2015
I had some wonderful leftover roast pork and wanted to use it well, and had great hopes for this recipe. I followed it exactly, but we were disappointed. The sauce was way too thick and heavy, and masked the flavor of the meat.

Marinated Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2014
The meat was very tender, but we really didn't like the flavor. I put in less cinnamon than the recipe called for, and it was still too much. Not at all a good combination of flavors.

Roasted Pork Loin

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2014
I seem to be in the minority, but I didn't think this dish was great or even very good. The pork was flavorful, but it wasn't very tender, even though I followed the recipe exactly. If I make it again, I will follow some of the suggestions and cook the pork with wine and broth in a covered baker.

Chicken Breasts in Caper Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2013
I marinated the chicken in lemon juice, and deglazed the pan with dry vermouth before adding the cream, but those are the only changes I made. Really easy, really fast, and really, really good. My husband loved it and so did I. My son wouldn't try the sauce, but he's 16, so what does he know? A winner, and one I'll make again.

Cinnamon Swirl Bundt Coffee Cake

Reviewed: May 24, 2012
I followed other reviewers' suggestions about creaming the butter and sugar, and used brown sugar instead of white. The result was very good, and even better the next day. The recipe is a little confusing about how much of the cinnamon-sugar mixture to put in the middle of the batter. (Does "generously" mean all of the mixture or not?) Use ALL the mixture. Next time I'll try it with white sugar and a glaze on top. Thanks for a tasty recipe.

Romantic Chicken with Artichokes and Mushrooms

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2012
I followed the recipe to the letter. The result was ok but fairly bland. The sauce was thin and a bit acidic. Next time, I'll follow the suggestions of other reviewers, and add herbes de provence to the sauce, use some sherry as well as wine, and thicken the sauce with a little cornstarch. I might also cut the chicken into chunks after sauteing it. I think the recipe has potential, but it needs to be tweaked.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2011
It really is the best! My husband had one bite and proclaimed it "superb". The sausage with the ground beef is fantastic. I added more onions, more garlic, fresh basil (about 3 Tbsps), fresh oregano (2Tbsps), and 3 or 4 splashes of Tabasco to the sauce (this really added a nice kick). I also followed the suggestion of other reviewers and made three layers, using lasagna noodles that i parboiled for only 3 minutes. This softened them up a little but kept them firm. The only thing I omitted was the fennel b/c I don't like it. We have great food in our city, but believe me, this lasagna is as good as any I've had in our top Italian restaurants. I can hardly wait to make it for a dinner party. Thanks for such a wonderful recipe. You've made a lot of people happy.

Grilled Salmon I

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2011
We loved this--great flavor, and so easy to make. As a reviewer suggested, I added one-third cup of fresh lemon juice, and it really enhanced the marinade. Next time, I think I will use less sugar--it will be even better if it is a little less sweet. My fillets were skinless, so I placed them on a piece of heavy foil, and they came out just perfect. This is a great recipe--a keeper for sure!

Best Ever Sausage with Peppers, Onions, and Beer!

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2011
We loved this recipe! I used chorizo sausages (what we had in the house) and they tasted wonderful, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. It was very flavorful and tasty. Next time, I might use just 1 tablespoon of hot sauce to make it slightly less fiery. This is a keeper.

Rubbed and Grilled Pork Loin

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2011
A real winner! I didn't have coriander, but it didn't seem to make any difference. Wonderfully tender and flavorful. My kids (one is a really picky eater) and my husband loved it. I served it with oven-baked french fries and a salad, and WOW-a great meal! It cooked much faster than the recipe suggested: I put it on a medium-hot grill, and it was ready in 22 minutes. I let it rest for 10 minutes and it was perfect: juicy and tender.
