So in my last blog I said I was going to conquer my fear of bread baking.  I never was any good at it, always ending up with a loaf that was either dense and tasteless or full of holes.  Well, I'm happy to gosh I think I've got it!  In the past months I have been making homemade… MORE

About this Cook
I'm a mom of 2 boys (yes they keep me VERY busy), a student working on my bachelor's degree online, and a very avid cook.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook just about anything, from pies and cookies, to gourmet dishes like Chicken Marsala, Rack of Lamb...pretty much everything! (Except liver of course--YUCK!) :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving is a HUGE deal in our family. It's the time of year when diets go out the window, and everyone enjoys great food and time together.
My cooking triumphs
I guess everytime I discover a new recipe, tweak it to just how we like it, and discover something new to add to our cookbook, it's a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
The worst thing I ever made was a gingerbread loaf cake (I think I actually got the recipe off of this site). My dog, who eats tin cans and motor oil, wouldn't even touch it. It was AWFUL!

Carrot Cake Muffins with Cinnamon Glaze
Excellent! They tasted like little carrot cakes, but far less rich (put some cream cheese icing though, and you've got the richness!). I subbed yogurt for the buttermilk, and they came out moist and delicious. Wonderful recipe!!

Homesteader Cornbread
Great cornbread recipe! I cook it in my cast iron skillet, and it turns out perfect every time. Make sure that if you use cast iron, you oil it heavily (I use olive oil), and put it in the oven while it's preheating. You never want to put a cold cast iron skillet in a hot oven! And besides, it gives the cornbread a beautiful crust!!

Donut Muffins
AWESOME! I may try them next time with a glaze instead of the butter/sugar. YUMMM!
