I have not bought a can of cream-of-anything-soup for over two years now.  I made a pact with myself and my family that I would make everything natural, and omit all of those processed ingredients that get thrown in for convenience.  Yes, I even gave up my recipe secrets packets and pre-mixed stew seasonings.  It was hard at first, but there are ways around all of those canned and packaged helpers.  I just don't feel right fixing home cooked meals that contain things like dextrose, MSG, hydrolyzed this and thats, and so on. And not to mention....everything tastes 1000% better!  You would not believe how using your own herbs and spices improves a recipe, and using bechemel sauce or gravy in placed of those creamed soups really enriches the dish!

To my point...does anyone else feel my frustration when searching for recipes that are merely a miriad of canned soups combined with meat?  I was making stroganoff tonight, and though I did find some without any processed helper ingredients, there were a lot labled "simple" and "easy" that had these in them.  Simple and easy does not always equal tasty or healthy.  I say we create a category labeled "Naturally Simple" and include only recipes that don't have these offending ingredients in them.  Anyone else with me??? :)

Totally with you! I don't use cream-of-whatever soups and never have. It's just as easy to make a white sauce and season it to taste. Seasoning mixes, well, I'm still guilty of using those from time to time. Great idea to have another category for REAL made from scratch recipes and I hope AR is paying attention. :o)

Don't have any cream of soups at my house either! I love your idea!!! I make everything from scratch :)

Haven't had any of that stuff around in about 3 years myself. I don't let it get me frustrated anymore because I've found alternatives that are staples in my house. I keep almond milk, tofu, cheeses, homegrown herbs(always in the planters outside) various homemade broths, etc. Mrs. Dash always comes in handy for flavoring as well.

I just recently have cut out the cream of... soups and I am trying to cut out processed foods. I love your idea!

Great idea! I haven't used any cream of soups in a long time. It tastes so much better when made from scratch.

I so agree with you. I love the ones for cake that include a box of cake mix. That to me is not baking :(

I would love to search for recipes and not have all those preboxed and canned foods listed. The whole reason I am searching for a recipe is because I don't or won't use processed foods and want from scratch recipes. Using a box or can is not scratch :)

Do cream soups freeze ok? I have thought recently that I could make homemade cream of... soups, but I've heard creamy things don't freeze well (or thaw well, one of the two).

Creamy soups can separate after freezing. I have read that you can either put them in a blender if they separate, or you can make the soup omitting the cream, freeze it, and then add the cream when you are ready to use it.

My cooking tragedies
The worst thing I ever made was a gingerbread loaf cake (I think I actually got the recipe off of this site). My dog, who eats tin cans and motor oil, wouldn't even touch it. It was AWFUL!
