Joe's Special Scramble

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2011
Mmmmmmmm! I haven't had Joe's Speacial for years, but it was a go to dinner in our family. My Mom and Dad were in S.F. in the late 40s and thats where Mom picked up the recipe. This is so good - dinner, brunch - after a late night out too. It may sound like an odd combination, but you have to try it, really!

Chicken in Roasted Poblano Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2011
I liked this, but the family did not. I used roasted Hatch green chilis that I had in the freezer, whih made it spicier. The sauce as wonderful with rice, rich and flavorful, and the Italian dressing keeps the chicken moist and tasty. The family may just have to try this again...!

Creole Seasoning Blend

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2010
Popcorn! This makes seasoned popcorn that will knock your socks off. (and that, dear readers, was a secret given to me by friend in Opelousas, LA)

These are yummy, especially good with hot buttered noodles. A Fall Classic around our house.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2008
Even I love these Sloppy Joes, and usually I won't eat the stuff. My youngest came back for thirds and he is notoriously picky! This one is a real keeper. Thanks!

Dark Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2008
An excellent, moist, rich chocoalte cake that is very easy to make, and quite reliable. I layered this with the chocolate ganache recipe from this website, whipped cream, and sliced ripe strawberries. It was a three layer cake, and I used the remaining ganache on top of the cake - it got rave reviews, and was delicious!

Simple Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2008
This is comfort food from my childhood! I would give it a 5 star rating, but it really is not an appetizing looking dish! I always add an extra can of sliced button mushrooms and a sprinkle of paprika on the top for color. Yum yum... I may have to make this for dinner tonight now!

Baked Ziti II

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2006
The Sicilian grandmother who taught me my basic Italian recipes just called this her "macaroni", and said it to always serve it with more "gravy" (marinara sauce - she used Ragu, unless it was a Sunday dinner)on the side, in case someone thought it was too dry. I love this, and make it often. Good for you for sharing this tradition!

Sesame Beef

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2003
Delicious! I reduced the sauce so that it glazed the meat before adding the sesame seeds. Even my kids, who don't often care for Chinese-style foods thought this was yummy.

Chinese Restaurant-Style Sesame Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2002
This was very easy to prepare, and tasted good, but wasn't like any Sesame Chicken I've had in a restaurant, which was a disappointment - it may have been that we found the star anise flavor in the 5-Spice powder we had purchased to be too overwhelming. I'll make it again, but not so much 5-spice.
