Taiwanese Sesame Oil Chicken Stew

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2012
I love this soup! (and yes, the noodles are called somen). My mom always made this for me, especially on a cold, rainy day. The rice wine really warms me up! LOVE!

Wonderful Waffles

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2012
I actually whipped the egg whites first in one bowl, then mixed all the other ingredients in another bowl. (this way, i had clean beaters for the egg whites, and didn't have to wash the beaters in between mixes) Then folded everything together. Not much more work. Really yummy. But definitely add some sugar and vanilla!

Empanadas

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2012
Amazing! I filled some with cheese and hot dog, cheese and ham, nutella, raspberry jam from trader joe's, pepperjack cheese. All were wonderful. The only combo i didn't like was chocolate and peanut butter. These are also great frozen, and baked when company comes by. A very good last minute appetizer. Definite crowd pleaser. Got rave reviews from everybody!

Quinoa with Asian Flavors

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2012
Not bad! Definitely better than other quinoa dishes I've tried. Following the advice of another member, I added water chestnut, which I think made the dish much better by adding texture. I also added less soy sauce, used low sodium chicken broth, and before serving, mixed in a splash of sesame oil. I would definitely make this again. WATER CHESTNUT is key!

Sweet and Spicy Swiss Chard

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2012
My first time trying swiss chard. It tastes like beets. I think the recipe will be good, if you like swiss chard. But since I don't like beets, I didn't like this dish.

Tomato Bisque III

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2012
I made this recipe without the cream/milk, used two cans of stewed tomatoes and added extra dried herbs (rosemary, basil, oregano, thyme), and it was wonderful, not to mention healthier! I also used some EVOO in place of the butter. This tasted like the tomato basil soup at Corner Bakery.

Pistachio White Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2011
The recipe AS IS : 3 starts But I took some member's advice and halved both the butter and shortening (1/2 c & 1/4 C respectively), and the cookie came out amazing! So with the changes made, a 5 star recipe. Definitely will make again....yum!

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2011
Flavor is pretty good, but the soup portion was a little muddy (from the beef) and it wasn't thick enough. I ended up putting in some leftover mashed potatoes to thicken the stew. As a "throw everything in a pot and leave it" recipe, it's very good. But not as good as stew cooked on the stove top. I will make again if I need something easy to throw together.

No-Knead Artisan Style Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2011
TOO SALTY!!! Will definitely make this bread again, but with 1 tsp salt instead of two. My bread came out flat. Not sure why, but will try to figure out how to make a round pretty bread bowl shape.

Reuben Sandwich II

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2011
I left out cheese and butter, toasted the bread, heated the meat and saurkraut like others suggested, and thought that everything was very good (minus the extra calories from the butter and cheese). I also used pastrami, I don't like corned beef. Would definitely make again!

Traditional Osso Buco

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2011
Very very yummy. I was only able to find beef shank, not veal. So I had to cook it 3 hours to get the "fall off the bone" tenderness that I wanted. But well worth it! Next time, I will try it in the slow cooker!

The best oatmeal cookies I've ever made. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. I also added extra spices....but I like my oatmeal cookies cinnamon-y! Yum!

Quinoa Tabbouleh

I made this as is, and it was bland. Something was very missing. I even put in the chicken broth, and cumin as others have suggested, but to no avail. Bland, bland, bland! Made this for a party, and there was A LOT leftover!!!!!!

Green Tea Mousse Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2011
The crust is good. But the cheesecake part had a "gelatinous" texture/flavor to it. I think there is too much gelatin. And the flavor was very one dimensional. Maybe it needs more honey, and a splash of lemon juice or zest to brighten up the flavor. Edible, but will be looking for another recipe, or tweaking this one.

Salmon Chowder

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2011
Easy and fast! Cheddar is not needed, as the chowder was already super yummy without it. I used less butter, and used one salmon fillet in place of 1 canned salmon (just because I had some in the freezer). Will definitely make it again. Two thumbs way up!!!

Sweet Corn Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2011
Super yummy. Made it for a Mexican-themed party, and everyone LOVED it!!! I followed other reviewers altered the recipe with: 1 can creamed corn, no water, less on sugar, and smashed up some tortilla chips instead of the masa harina. Wonderful and simple recipe!
