Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2011
Bitter aftertaste :( I made it several times to make sure. Each time I got a bitter aftertaste. Bummer - how can a 3,000 user rating of 4.5 stars be wrong. . . oh well. . .

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2008
I loved it! Not too soft. I know a lot of people like a chubby and super-moist sugar cookie. But the soft ones don't transport very well. This recipe holds it's shape and moves to the parchment paper easily. And it takes the rigors of being packaged for gift giving. All this without being too crunchy. But I like a little crunch on the edges. . . just a little ;) My new cut cookie recipe!

Baked French Toast

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2006
I used this recipe to feed a big group of exchange students that stayed overnight at my house. A loaf of bakery french bread was way too much for a 9x13 dish. To accomodate the bread, I had to cube it, smoosh it in, and up the liquid and eggs (1 more cup of Milk/cream, and 4 more eggs) I also added 2 tbsp sugar to the custard mixture and intend to double the carmel topping. It was really good, but was only slightly sweet prepared as the recipe directs. I like my french toast/custard to be a little more noticably sweet. All in all, it was a big hit and the leader of the group asked for the recipe and intends to use it for Easter Brunch. I will definitely use again.

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2006
Love it! Not syrupy sweet like so many. Loads of Banana flavor. Worth the extra bake time. My Husband loves it so that settles it :) Now I can stop searching for a family Banana Bread Recipe! Thank you, Shelley.

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2006
The 4.5 cups of flour made a really stiff dough for me. It didn't rise well at all and as a result, didn't have that wonderfully light, melt-in-your-mouth cinnabon texture. It did taste good. I will try again and watch the dough more closely. I'll go for something a bit more loose. I have to watch all my breads like that, so I should know better. I will try again :)

Almond Buttercrunch Candy I

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2005
Very nice! Easy, quick and delicious. Made a batch for my husband to take to work for the guys. It was perfect. Kids are excited that this is a new Christmas Candy that they can look forward to. I'm not a seasoned candy maker so I followed the suggestions of a previous reviewer and buttered the sides of my sauce pan so that I could leave it untouched until it reached 300 degrees. I had success the first go. Thanks Janis.

Classic Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2005
I've worked as a the bread maker for an Italian Restaurant and as Pastry Chef for another popular bakery in my area. I was looking for a simple, no frills, use-everyday recipe and this is it. You can get recipes like this in baking text books, but who wants to buy the whole book. Next time I will go ahead and add the touch of extra honey. My kids are going to love me in the morning!

Fast and Easy Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2005
It is fast and easy, but at the expense of everything else. Baking-soda taste. To sweet. Bland. To decrease the baking soda would make these already flat pan-cake even more flat. Reduce sugar, add salt. . . create comepletely different recipe.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2005
The texture was much loved, but the flavor was lacking. I had to leave out the nuts, that would have helped. I really like the way the butter and sugar carmelize in a crispier cookie. My husband really wants a soft cookie. Where to find the happy medium? Not here, I'm afraid.

Beth's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2005
followed the recipe exactly. I don't know what happened. They ended up really dry and didn't melt at all during baking. They kept their ball shape the entire 10 minutes. The flavor was what I was looking for, but the texture was certainly not. It must be some wierd fluke, but it still didn't turn out for me.

Banana Bread II

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2004
I wasn't impressed after the first loaf, but it had such a great rating that I made two more loaves just to be sure. Not enough banana flavor and just a hint of a baking soda after-taste. I'm going to try Banana Banana Bread next
