I am a stay-at-home mom and have been married to my wonderful husband David for 7 years now. When we first got married, I did not have much cooking experience and had to try all kinds of new things (we couldn't have spaghetti every night!), and my hubby was a willing guinea pig. Now, I feel pretty comfortable in the kitchen and enjoy making healthy meals for my family.
My favorite things to cook
Anything sweet although i can't keep too much of that around the house! I like experimenting with different spices to jazz up a boring tuna salad, or see how much whole wheat flour I can add to a recipe for the extra fiber. My family also LOVES spicy food, so I'm always trying to kick it up a notch or two.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have fond memories of harvesting apples and making all kinds of apple pies, applesauce, and apple butter with my family. It made the house smell so good!
My cooking triumphs
We frequently have people over on the weekends, so I've learned to be flexible and come up with yummy meals or snacks on a moment's notice. I also sometimes prepare enough meals for at least a month and tuck them away in my freezer so that I won't have to think about a main dish for awhile. That's always a nice feeling.
My cooking tragedies
I don't even like to think about it! We were having some friends over for dinner to celebrate my birthday and I decided to make a cabbage soup (I know, I know! Why fix cabbage soup for a birthday party!?). It did not turn out very well, and not many people liked it. The bad thing was that we had SO much left. My husband and I had to douse it with Tabasco to make it palatable. At least there was cake afterwards!
