About this Cook
I currently work at my local animal shelter and enjoy cooking, hiking, reading novels and manga(graphic novels), watching t.v./anime, hanging out with my friends and snuggling, playing and chasing my cat, Jeremy. I want to become a veterinarian(holistic) in the long run but I wasn't ready to jump into college straight out of high school, but I plan to finally(2 years later) start in the fall semester.
My favorite things to cook
I've been trying to expand my experience of food and have been trying more Asian dishes, especially Japanese and Chinese, but I don't like fish so I usually replace it with beef or chicken if it seems it will work. I also like to try Italian recipes but it seems the recipes I end up making the most are the ones I get in the daily e-mails.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family wasn't huge on keeping traditional recipes but I'm predominantly Native American, Italian, and German and learned a couple methods of such. I started cooking around the age of nine but that was mostly childhood dabbling, then my parents divorced and my dad was a terrible cook so whenever I was on visitation with him I had to cook myself but he never kept spices other than salt so most of the food was pretty bland. My mom used to cook regularly but then she started to gamble again as I went into my teens so I ended up cooking more, mostly chicken, eggs, beef, steamed vegetables, skillet fried potatoes, instant rice, and box recipes, pretty simple stuff. When I turned 16 I moved out of my moms and went to live with a friend, mostly because my mom was moving back to Cali. Since I was essentially on my own I was cooking even more but it was mostly the basic stuff I was used to. Since graduating I've been trying to increase my capacity and skills now that I'm just working.
My cooking tragedies
Steak is one of the things I have the hardest time with, mostly because my boyfriend doesn't like almost any blood, while I like it around medium, so I seem to have an issue with letting it cook too much and get dry. Some days I do better than others though and it comes out O.K.

Amish White Bread
This is delicious, comes out nice and light with just enough sweetness. I made this for sandwich bread for my husband and I'm having a hard time not eating it.

Mushroom Chicken in Sour Cream Sauce
My husband and I enjoyed the flavor. I followed the diretions with the amount of spices but didn't have any white wine and used water instead as well as used thigh instead of breast, it was on sale when I went shopping. Overall good flavor and went well over rice.
