I love cooking and have been cooking since I was 5 years old...43 years in the kitchen. As a busy business owner, my favorite pastime is coming home, grabing a recent issue of a food magazine, relaxing and reading stories and recipes sipping a glass of Chardonnay.
My favorite things to cook
During the week I rely on prepared meals that can be enjoyed for a couple of dinners and even a to go lunch. A coupld weekday faves are my quick homemade white chicken chile, served with cornbread & a sundried tomato/summer veggie farfelle pasta. For sweets, dark chocolate brownies with walnuts and meyer lemon creamcheese bars.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I was fortunate to be raised by a mother and 2 grandmothers who cooked everything. I grew up with a homemade dinner by mom every night. A couple favorites were and still are today my moms stuffed peppers, tamale pie and Thanksgiving Stuffing. As a child my family and I would enjoy Sunday Suppers at my dads moms where true italian food was enjoyed with family, meat gravy and red wine around a kitchen table. My moms mother cooked hearty, homemade comfort meals, like salmon and dumplings...yuck when your 5, but now I sure wish I had the recipe.
My cooking triumphs
I love food, love cooking and love seeing the faces and smiles of serving family and friends my food.
At 24 I won in a local recipe contest for Chicken Pasole Soup and at 42 prepared a homemade cake donated to a cancer charity that was photographed on the cover of the local county newspaper.
My cooking tragedies
Newspaper coverage on charity cake caught many readers and a friend insisted I prepare her daughters wedding cake. What? Me I am no professional baker, but accepted it and the final production was a beautiful sheetcake, frosted in whipped white frosting and fresh red roses. Sadly tragedy struck transporting cake on the hottest day in history. The cake fell apart during delivery to wedding. That is my cooking tragedy!
