Rice and Raisin Breakfast Pudding

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2014
This dish has been perfect for all of the very cold mornings we are having this winter: a great stick-to-your-ribs breakfast! I make it with my leftover basmati rice, and I don't always toast the almonds. Contrary to the experience of another reviewer, I have never found the almonds get soggy. Also unlike many other reviewers, I think the cardamon is essential for a wonderful flavor that just works great with the cinnamon. Finally, the prep time is nowhere near 15 minutes. This is a wonderfully filling, warm breakfast that you can serve in 10 minutes flat!

Winter Solstice Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2003
This may be the perfect soup. The ingredients are usually on hand, it's quick and easy to make, and it's got really great flavor. I have only two suggestions about making this soup: At least for the first time, resist the temptation to add other vegetables, especially greens, to the soup, because the golden color of this soup is really beautiful, and, leave some of the vegetables unpureed to add a little texture. Thank you, Sara, for maybe the best soup recipe I've ever had the pleasure to use!

Drop Nut Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2003
These cookies are moist and tasty and very easy to make! I made three kinds of cookies for the holidays, and these were the hands-down favorite. If you don't have sour milk, add one tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice to the milk and let it stand 5 minutes before using. I followed this recipe exactly except I sprinkled the cookies very lightly with powdered sugar while they were still warm. That made these pretty cinnamon-colored cookies look even more appealing. Thanks, Carol, for such a great recipe.

Sour Cream Bundt Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2002
This recipe is great. Adding the sour cream gives the box cake more flavor and a homemade taste. I suspect most people will have to add about 10 minutes to the baking directions on the box because of the addition of the sour cream.
